Watch some of the longer interviews with him. He's a legitimate artist. Even if he disagrees with the decision of directors or writers he busts his ass to deliver what they want. I can say with all certainty he's not motivated by money but by the knowledge that the end result would be worse if he was not involved.

We do not know what kind of contracts Mark, Ford and rest of the cast signed when making the original trilogy. There might be some loopholes that forces them to make VII-IX or they will be sued and Disney found out about them.

It would explain why Ford didn't give a flying fuck and why Hamill so openly criticizes the whole thing.
