Alex was one of the only characters who clearly starting show suicidal tendencies, besides Tyler, but he is going down another path.

The show was too far fetched to be taken seriously all the while trying to send this strong message about suicide prevention and what the signs look like. (If you're watching this, you're off to a bad start)

Here's a few things that ruined the show for me:

1. Why would you go to a known rapist's house? A rapist who has already grabbed your ass in public with no thought of it. Everything that happened to her was her own fucking fault for being a stupid fucking cunt offended by everything.

2, Hannah had no issue calling the police over a fucking knocked over stop sign, but after watching her late friend get LITERALLY RAPED, she is somehow too shocked to report it.

3. They tried their best to keep the viewer in the know of exactly when on the timeline they were watching. IE: Hannah's hair, Clay's head injury, the color hues before/after Hannah's suicide. Yet there are constantly times you have no fucking clue where on the timeline you're watching.

4. Alex killing shooting himself in the head is an awful, completely pointless "twist." The kid had no even remotely reasonable reason to want to kill himself. Boo hoo I wrote a compliment about my friend on a piece of paper and she is somehow so fucking offended that this starts her downward spiral. They should have made the situations less resolvable. Maybe she witnesses the rape and Bryce sees her, threatens her family/friends? Maybe instead of knocking down a fucking stop sign, they're the ones who actually hit Jeff's car?

What a piece of shit. I could go on for hours writing about how awful this show was.

The scene where she kills herself and the parents rush in was very emotional and I give them credit for that.

While Clay and Hannah are still the main focus of it, none of them are saints (and I think they're not supposed to be). Hannah did all of this because she DID crave attention, but didn't ask for it directly, until she killed herself and shamed everybody else for not giving it to her, and also brought their own issues to light (Courtney, Zach, Clay, Sheri, Jessica being the prime examples, I'd say). The way she did it might have been atroocious, but at the very least it makes them revaluate who they are and how their actions affected people, even if non directly related to Hannah herself.

Clay, while being portrayed as a pretty nice guy overall throughout it all, also has huge issues in the form of dealing with his grief. ALSO refuses to talk about the way he feels about her crush (I'd say thats a word more appropriate than "lover") killling herself and places way too much of the weight on his shoulders for a girl he truly barely even knew.

Only guy who is an irredeemable piece of shit is Bryce, but I think thats agreed upon by absolutely everybody.

Only nice thing I can say about Bryce is that he was a relative bro. One reason out of many to hate the show is the fact that for the Jeff drunk driving twist to work, they had to have no-one ever mention the guy ever even though it was obvious he was either dead or had moved away. He died only a week or two before Hannah did, why is no-one fucking talking about him? Why aren't there drunk driving posters everywhere? He's meant to be well liked compared to Hannah but no-one but Clay and that one guy Alex gets into a fight with even give a shit.

Well at no point does the show try and push the idea that killing yourself is ever justified. It's just a story about a girl and the people in her life, how she felt that their in/actions led her to commit suicide, and the consequences of that decision. If there's a message it's trying to convey it might be "Try to avoid being shitty, when you can."

I thought it was a genuinely sorrowful story that would have been cheapened if it tried to tell the audience "Hey guys remember that suicide is super bad, ok? Like really bad."

Every single one, because the entire premise of the series is that she killed herself and now everyone else has to deal with that. You say you don't want a hammer on nail type message, but it seems you need an idea as simple as "Killing yourself hurts others" spelled out to you.

If you want an example of shit she did before she died, then how about when she didn't tell anyone about Bryce raping Jessica, when she rejected Clay for doing absolutely nothing, or didn't tell anyone that Sheri knocked down the stop sign.

She realized she was a coward and that fed into her depression - self loathing and feelings of worthlessness are prevalent in people who commit suicide.
