I've worked in call centres my entire adult life, but I've also known people who work in the military and in medicine. Not who you were replying to, but I've been a support worker for just over five years and I've gotta say pretty much anyone can get in (or at least it certainly seems that way given some of the absolute fuckups I've had to work with).

It's a low paying job with no real qualification requirements and a high turnover rate (speaking as a britfag, not sure if it actually pays decent wage in the states or anything), so as long as you've done a modicum of research on what autism is beforehand (triad of impairment, etc.) and can at least pretend to have an ounce of empathy and common sense it's not a hard job to pass an interview for.

Also, for all the greentext horror stories being thrown about in this thread, every now and then you can luck out and end up working primarily with someone on the higher end of the spectrum with fairly manageable triggers who just wants someone to go with him to the cinema or a bit of help playing videogames, tidying up and preparing meals or something, so you basically end up getting paid to doss about.

Real talk: being thick-skinned and able to set your ego aside and not take things they do or say to you personally is probably the biggest factor in whether you can stick with the job long term though.
