Episode 1, the most hated prequel is still more memorable and geniune to Star Wars than any Disney rehash ever will. I wish George didn't leave us out in the cold. But I understand why he did it. To be constantly demonized by the Internet days on end for years gets tiresome. The kids that grew up loving the prequels ended up hating his guts because Plinkett told them so. So it must've hurt knowing the younger audience who the prequels really were meant for had turned on you with the advent of social media.

Nope. It was perfect under Lucas after the prequels. He had no desire to fuck with anything because he didn't care, so people just did whatever. No corporate greed, no forced annual franchises. Just writers doing whatever their heart desires, sometimes turns out to be shit, but usually turns out better than anything Disney has created thus far.

It doesn't always mesh. The wildly varying acting styles don't help much either. McGregor is so naturalistic whereas Christiensen is incredibly mannered and their scenes together come off as awkward. And then there's Portman, who can't pull off the Shakespearean dialogue to save her life.

I like the prequels a lot more than most, but not all of Lucas' experimentation was successful IMO.

The smartest thing George could have done was to sit on the rights to the franchise and not touch them for the rest of his life. The OT was a perfect storm of the right people in the right places at the right time. He should have known that
a) he didn't have the talent to create something on that level on his own
and
b) giving the rights away would be a death sentence for the franchise, no matter how passionate the people he'd give it to would initially appear to be

In the end, he made both of these mistakes.

and people talk shit about the prequels but at least they were original. the designs and world building were great and helped create some of the best sw games and spin offs ever.

ep7 and the books, games and everything else based around that timeline is just boring as fuck.
