The Pendant she wore since the day he was a baby in which she took pictures with him and wore every day up to her death. But this asshole alien, who mind fucks people into developing Stockholm syndrome with it, and so much so that even though Elle Fanning was a hairs breadth from being herself, eaten alive, she was like, "it's not his fault, he wants to go home." Even after the doctor, who risked his life and the life of probably hundreds of others to free this dinosaur like alien fucker, had only ever touched the creature for a few minutes, he said of how a part of him was trapped in the monster and a part of the monster was alive in him, and that they shared a type of telepathic link, which enforces that the monster mind fucks you into doing its bidding.

And that's why Super 8 fails. The monster/alien is not at all sympathetic. they were in E.T. and even in Close Encounters, which had one of the scariest abduction scenes I have ever seen when Barry was taken. Fuck, that was some off the wall shit. But it all worked out for the best at the end. J.J, the hack, saw Jaws, Jurassic Park, E.T. and Close Encounters and thought to combine all four of them into one movie.
Technically it's a master piece, Logically, it's a shit.
