They were actually being enrolled (the majority of them being willing) and trained because the Soviet army needed every persons they can to kick out the krauts. It was later on that they were being used as propaganda. Which didn't really worked. A lot of female soldiers would say that every female civilian they encounter would call them sluts that would use the war to fuck their husbands. Which was stupid because they had better things to do like avoiding being shot at.

Female in the soviet army weren't just snipers either. A lot were working with the artillery or were charged with seeking the injured (and their weapons) in the battlefield. Which meant they were likely to get shot either by planes or infantry. Likewise, I read that a few women were strapped to tanks and had to help the crew get out of it in case the tank was about to get blown up. The task being done, the women had to strap themselves to another tank and repeat the task until the battle was over. And I'm not talking about all the women that were enrolled as medics, operatives, cooks or maid for the far back. Although they never saw battles, the energy they had to put to their task was enormous and as constraining as anything else.

I gathered all of these by reading memoirs of female soldiers during WW2. And no, it wasn't meant as SJW propaganda, the general message all these women had was "war fucking sucks."

Based on my reading, a lot of these women were young (16-20) and really small and weak (by their own admissions). Amusingly, all of them mentioned that with their uniforms and their short hairs, everyone assumed they were small boys and not actually women. Yet, the Soviet Army still resorted to use them because they needed every helps they can. More so when all of them presented themselves in the recruitment centre and were highly motivated to fight. Although, the soviets officers begrudgingly used their services majorly for two reasons :
