you should know that the 90s anime adapts a part of the story that is kinda like an origins story/prequel, with the main purpose of explaining what happened to Guts and why he is the way he is in the main timeline of the story. The anime jumps into that origin story straight ahead and skips the first couple of volumes that introduce you to the world and current Guts.
