Shit like this has kind of inspired me to go bike riding long distance later this year. Going to ride from Cairns to Brisbane.

I live in Japan and I would say that average height for young guys is the same as me, 5ft11 older people and women are smaller

I should be okay. Going to be careful obviously but my bike will be an offroad one, will stick to the very edges as much as possible and only riding during the daytime.
Japan has way too much TV kino.
Take Hajimete no Otsukai, for instance. It's a show in which young kids, around 4-5, go out on their own for the first time to perform some kind of errand, like buying some items from the local store, or taking a lunchbox to someone.
It's maximum comfy.

Cheers mate. I'll look into it. I'm looking to buy a new bike solely for this trip(I'll be using it afterwards of course but my current road bike is six years old so I'm letting it take a bit of a break, also it doesn't have any spots for panniers and I'm not riding 1300kms with everything, including water, in a backpack).
I've got a friend who's done some long distance rides and my dad is mates with a few guys who've run literally around Australia who're going to give me some tips on distance and time management. Really looking forwards to it!
Kind of hope to do something similar again in two years time, maybe find something overseas, hell I might even try touring Japan.
Begin Japanology is great
I'm hardly a Weeaboo, but I really enjoy watching it
