I was watching Split and I noticed a scene where he leaves some flowers near the train. Is this a reference to the train accident from Unbreakable? Like, this marked the death of Kevin's father and the birth of the Beast?

I also want to understand, why 24 personalities? One for every year of Kevin's life?

What else did you guys noticed?
>>
the main character's boobs are fucking great
>>
If Shyamalan wasnt such a pajeet and kept it a secret that this was a sequel to unbreakable, I might have an answer for you.

Yeah, I definitely noticed the flowers at the train station thing. And do you think Kevin is only 24? He seems a lot older. I was thinking mid 30s. and how hype are you for that final fight James McAvoy vs Bruce Willis?
>>
>>81618822
This. Black girl was top tier too. Based Shyamalan

>>
>>81618889
He was abused since he was a child. Maybe that's why he looks so old.
Think about it. If getting raped and tortured for years by her uncle wasn't enough to make the girl have multiple personalities, just imagine what kind of abuse Kevin had to deal with his mother.
>>
>>81619027
she didnt have multiple personalities

I'm not the guy you're replying.
I respect Shyamalan for nothing cutting a scene and just moving the camera instead. Go watch the scene where Dunn talks with the woman in the train and Kevin's final scene in Split.

yeah i didn't understand why he had to go to the train to unleash the beast. just to have the scene of him running back to the house.
>>

What the fuck did The Beast do to the girls? Was he eating them? You'd think the news report would cover that or he would be covered in blood.

he had blood around his mouth and there was a hole in the one girl's stomach
He is the kid in unbreakable with the abusive mother. Bruce Willis resides not to help him, and help the little girls who are getting raped by the janitor. So basically Bruce Willis created him, just like Glass created Bruce Willis.
I thought the blood in his mouth was from clinching his teeth while bending metal bars. Didn't see a hole in the girl tho.

Kevin's dad got on a train and never came back.

Unbreakable was released in the year 2000, so it's safe to assume the events took place around 17 years before Split.

Even though James McAvoy is in his late 30s, I guess we are supposed to assume Kevin is younger so he would be a child during Unbreakable.

Obviously the subtext is that Kevin's father died on the trash crash in Unbreakable, so Mr. Glass created a super hero and super villain from the same event.

He does have superhuman capabilities, he just never thoroughly explored them in Unbreakable.

We know that he can lift a shitload of weight without hurting himself, and that sever trainwrecks/car crashes/etc don't even break his skin.
We know that he's immune to disease as long as it isn't water induced, as water ignores his powers.
We know that he has Dead Zone style psychic powers, and if he touches someone who's done something inherently wrong, he'll know in detail.

What we don't know is how far his limits are, since again he came into this superhero business very reluctantly. We also don't know if age is a factor.

The same could be said about Kevin, though he's much more willing to push his own limits.

Three possibilities right now.

First, and most likely, is that Shyamalan learned from his mistakes and appreciates the price of hubris, and is actually working to make good movies again.

Second, he got lucky and managed to shit out a decent movie again.

Third, and craziest, is that he uses his main actors as templates for his films, or even lets them ghost write/direct his movies for him. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were filmed during and after Bruce Willis's divorce, and turned out to be bleak stories about men with marital problems. Signs had a different tone and was about a Catholic man regaining his faith after tragedy struck. The Village had a bizarre and weak twist that could be attributed to Joachim's eccentricities. Lady in the Water was his lowest-key film that felt like the indie movies where Paul Giamatti got his start. The Happening was about a low-IQ manchild and a doe-eyed valley girl. The Last Airbender was entirely populated by kids, and felt like it was directed by a twelve year old. After Earth was pure unadulterated Will Smith nepotism. Split, involving an actor Night never worked with, felt very different and had an atmosphere that fits McAvoy's somewhat skewed personality.

Unbreakable 2'll be another Bruce Willis movie. I've got high hopes.

Samuel L. Jackson doesn't say no to any offered role anymore and he was actually mad at M. Night for not making a sequel to Unbreakable in the past.

He'll very likely be in it. He's also as broken as it gets, which the Beast would respect. I have no idea whether he'll hate that Elijah killed his father or that he'll love him for it.

What I do know is that if Elijah's in Unbreakable 2, Elijah will almost definitely use the Horde's strength to his advantage. The Horde is a soldier villain meant to fight the hero with his hands. Mr. Glass is the real threat, who fights the hero with his mind.

Listen, I enjoyed watching the movie even without seeing Unbreakable, but the entire ending with the Bruce Willis cameo and sequel hook made it feel like I wasted my time watching a very long teaser trailer which is supported by the fact none of the characters were really developed besides Dennis.

Split had no substance and the ending was incomplete, there wasn't any real closure, it's sort of implied Casey might snitch on her uncle, but no honest confirmation.

Even better, DID is typically a result of child abuse.

Kim Noble in particular is a hell of a case. Molested as a child, she developed 20 main personalities and a shitload of less developed personas. Fourteen of them ended up taking to art, and each one of her artist personas has a distinct style. Really fascinating shit.

His daddy left by train, so Beast reemerging from the train is how he imagines his dad's return, The difference between The Beast and the 24 personalities is that the 24 was a way to protect Kevin, but the Horde figured and believe that they were all not enough, so they all believed at the Beast, who they believe as Kevin's dad to protect all 24 of them.

The 24, including Kevin wanted to believe that Kevin's dad is this unstoppable creature, an amalgam of the strongest animals there is, manifested from Kevin's youthful mind in order to protect them from the "mother" and from the world.

in a way, Kevin believed that his father left because he was not pure, and only became so after his mother's abuse, thats why the beast decides and saves anyone he deems as pure

>Shyamalan directs three or four more turds to lower everyone's guard

>next comes a thriller about a detective with daddy issues hunting for missing children
>one of the suspects is actually the culprit, revealed in the first act
>the hunt is on
>the detective finally tracks the guy down and cuffs him
>The Horde ambushes and kills the detective with supernatural strength
>fade to black
>David Dunn at his son's funeral
>his son is the detective
>he knows The Horde killed his son
>Dunn goes to see ayyy-fu and tracks the Horde down
>the Horde has a small cult, all indoctrinated due to mental illness and history of abuse, some have mild superpowers but nothing huge
>Dunn v Horde showdown
>The Beast attempts to drown Dunn in what seems like a bit of a bullshit scenario (the cult's hideout is right near the ocean or something)
>Dunn ultimately wins and saves the children who The Horde was trying to give powers, some are actually manifesting but most are just traumatised as fuck
>Dunn confronts Mr Glass in the mental asylum about how The Horde knew about his weakness to water
>Mr Glass hints that there are more out there
>midcredits scene is a woman talking her way through the asylum and having the guards release Glass
>postcredits scene is the Horde waking back up

I think in future movies Kevin will develop new personalities which will grant him further abilities. For example, one may be a detective with genius IQ. He would make a formidable adversary for Unbreakable-Man.
