Why was Zemo willing to kill totally innocent people to forward

In the comics, Baron Zemo's motivation is a little grander than simple revenge.

He more or less believes that he is some kind of ubermensch.

In fact, he thinks so highly of himself and his own abilities, that he actually believes that it would be *immoral* not to try to take over the entire world so that he can act out some kind of greater good as a perfect benevolent dictator.

In comparison to most other marvel super-villains, he's actually thought out and expressed his ideology pretty thoroughly and consistently. He is simply born better and is meant to rule. Everything really would be better if he were in charge.

This is a bit different from Red Skull, who is just some kind of vague Nazi/Fascist and doesn't really touch on nihilism or existentialism.

Thing is, Zemo doesn't just want to take a throne by force, he actually wants to be loved and universally recognized as deserving it -- what's more he wants that to be true. He really wants to be the world-saving leader-messiah. This makes him different from Dr Doom, who is mostly driven by resentment, a desire to dominate, and proving to the world that he's better than reed richards.

The movie would have been better of Zemo's plan was to get everyone to hate the avengers. A cliched super villain plan but it works well in comics.

Jesus this film was fucking awful. I can't imagine anyone giving it better than a 5/10 unless you already love marvel flicks. Its legitimately the worst thing Disney has ever put out.

He literally says more powerful people have tried to destroy them like that in the past, and it didn't work. He (presumably) knows about the alien invasion and lived the Ultron events firsthand, so why would he 1) throw a couple weaker enemies at them? 2) unite them against a common foe again?

He didn't want to kill them, he wanted them to suffer. These are simple formulaic movies. How can so many of you not get it?

He said he physically cannot kill the Avengers, he'd have to get them to do it to themselves.

Normal people, however, he could easily kill.

He literally spells it out for you in the film with blatant lines of fucking dialogue and actions.
