When humanity colonizes other planets, how does Earth make sure the colonies won't secede?
'The implication'
what's wrong with them seceding?
>>81501690
we won't be able to tax our own venture.
When england colonized the americas, how did they stop them from seceding?
>>81501709
They didn't, that's why they're broke.

They will build an army of giant robots to threaten them with. They'll call them... Grandzorts. Or something

Same way most colonialism happened. Make them economically reliant on you for manufactured goods.

funny how he was designed to keep the colonies in check, and then kept the forerunner aliens in check

For Canada Australia New Zealand India they delegated power to local legislative bodies which governed on their behalf.
At first those legislatures were subject to veto by the governor general and were purely advisory... but they at the very least qualified as representation, meaning no-one could scream "No taxation without representation!"
Slowly the local governments gained more power once the rulers back in England realized that the people actually living in the colonies knew the place well enough to govern it better than some appointee from England. Basically it was a simple matter of practicality and actually wanting to run the colonies well/efficiently.

Another thing we should ask ourselves:
What's the point of a colony in the first place?
Usually it comes down to two things:
1. Resource extraction and wealth.
2. Exporting culture/values/religion/ethnicity
If you look and England and the USA, the British emphasized #1, which led them to get fucked on #2.
With England and Canada, they did #1 for as long as they could, but eventually called it a day and worked on #2 to moderate success.
If you get to the point where these two missions are accomplished as well as they possibly could be, then there's not really any point in keeping the colony anymore.
Like, if a Mars conoly stops being as profitable as we'd like, but continues to practice a recognizable variation of earth culture and values and language.... well it's pretty much mission accomplished, right? We got money out of them while it lasted, and built something of worth.
