why does this scene exist?
>>
>>81498563
I don't get it. It makes sense, those engines have to be fucking powerful and it's not completely pushing it, it's only turning it on a pivot point.

It really does make sense if you know any basic physics and logically think about how strong those thrusters have to be in the first place

The Hammerheads weren't even that small in the KotOR games. A lot of the ridiculousness of this scene could have been avoided by just making the Hammerhead larger, and having it suicide ram the portal itself.

The star destroyer has already been knocked out though and had no power

Dope scene. This was exactly what The Force Awakens was missing.

Rogue One was great, actually felt like I got my money's worth at the end.

Its like pushing a car towards other car with a needle. And actually have them crash into rubble while the other side with needle is intact
>>
>>81498626
Somehow i don't have the slightest doubt the hammerhead would be powerful enough to turn the Star Destroyer like that, considering tiny tug boats handle massive container ships every day.

But i somehow feel like the internal structure of the hammerhead would give in and it would crush itself like a pop can.

Anyway, fuck the haters, that was awesome.

A rocket engine propels something through a nozzle in one direction.
One of those Newtonian laws demands that an equal and opposite reaction takes places, i.e. the rocket engine itself gets propelled in the opposite direction.
>>
>>81499478
The wall represents second destroyer because the way collision happened(it didn't just bounce off the first one) I assume it had operative engines holding it still. Star destroyers are relatively made of butter because they got annihilated while hammerhead didnt destroy itself with all that force.

>>81498563
I do like the scene but the physics are all wrong. To cause that kind of motion the ship would have to be pushing at the other side of the destroyer's centre of mass to cause the bridge to hit the other estrogen first. But yeah u guess the smaller ship could move it as there's no opposing force to prevent acceleration. So the motion itself isn't realistic for some retarded reason, but the ability of the small ship to move the destroyer is possible
>>
>>81499875

I always though it was weird that ships in star wars always were stationary and fell when they were damaged
then I thought those ships can appear motionless above a planet becsuse they have the capability to land or hover over the surface, so why couldn't they do the same but in space
this led to the conclusion that they fell because the lift engines were damaged or disabled

You throw mass out one side with high speed so you accelerate to the exact opposite side directly proportional to the mass and speed you threw out.

RotJ is overrated by SW fans but underrated by those who hold ESB as the absolute best thing ever, don't get me wrong, ESB is undeniable the best star wars film, but RotJ only gets that amount of shit because of the Ewoks, add more scenes with Yoda and replace the Ewoks with Wookies as they had originally intended and it could have been the best of the original trilogy.
>>
>>81500347

>but RotJ only gets that amount of shit because of the Ewoks, add more scenes with Yoda and replace the Ewoks with Wookies as they had originally intended and it could have been the best of the original trilogy.
Yeah... no sweetie.

I'm still mad the empire got destroyed by teddy bears and it would have only been slightly less embarrassing had they been defeated by fucking Tarzan dogs.

If they had stuck with Gary Kurtz ideal ending that would have been something.

>We had an outline and George changed everything in it," Kurtz said. “Instead of bittersweet and poignant he wanted a euphoric ending with everybody happy. The original idea was that they would recover [the kidnapped] Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn’t want any of the principals killed. By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.”

>The discussed ending of the film that Kurtz favored presented the rebel forces in tatters, Leia grappling with her new duties as queen and Luke walking off alone “like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns,” as Kurtz put it.

>Kurtz said that ending would have been a more emotionally nuanced finale to an epic adventure than the forest celebration of the Ewoks that essentially ended the trilogy with a teddy bear luau.

The rocket on the smaller ship was designed to propel itself, not a massive ship a thousand times its mass. The smaller ship would begin to buckle from the bigger ships resistance and eventually crumble wouldn't it?

Look at how thin the smaller ship is. It wouldn't be able to support its own thrust against a solid object without breaking apart let alone move a ship which takes 6 fucking engines 10 times the size of that smaller ship.

Get an empty can, this is now your ship. Your hand is the rockets force. Crush the can against a concrete wall and ask yourself why the wall didn't budge and why the can crushed itself. You get bonus points if you dont ram the can and instead push it

So it takes like 10 Puny Pod-Racer sized ships to take down a Star Destroyer, and a clearly Phallic inspired ship to fuck it and crash it into another one.

Fuck this movie.

It even fucks up the sense of scale that the original Star Wars had. It's so unexciting compared to the Death Star run in the original Star Wars. There's no sense of speed at all.

It's just the more I think about Rogue One the more I get angry at it. It wastes so much potential.

If you're going to make a Dirty Dozen style movie let us see the characters have fun and gain camraderie. Then there's some weight in their deaths because we care about them. Robert Aldrich knew this, that's why the Dirty Dozen is pretty slow and just fun to watch at the start.

I'm convinced Gareth Edwards on the other hand is the new Michael Bay. He only wants fucking explosions and drama. He doesn't give a real shit about story.

I just liked it as an action film, the characters had 3 dangerous goals to accomplish as the film goes along all taking them to a final stand battle, both protagonists aren't really that good carrying the movie though, the secondaries were far more charming.

It's not perfect by any means of course, it was just alright SW material.

Most people hating it here just parrot what they saw in the RLM videos, that is too dark, that everyone dies and that it has nostalgic stuff thrown in in a film that's set right before the first star wars film.

It's one of the least stupid things in Star Wars. All that's required are a bunch of powerful rocket engines - which the ships do have, since they seem to have near infinite delta-v and pull multiple-g maneuvers routinely. This is in a vacuum and microgravity, remember? Nothing about the scene is wrong.

The parts that are actually ridiculous are the thing retards like you take for granted - for instance, any scene where they show ships maneuvering like airplanes, doing loops and turns and shit.

Stupid niggers everywhere in this thread.

1. The HAMMERHEAD was literally designed to ram. It's front half is fucking diamond or vibranium or something fucking hard and heavy. The back half is pure V12 muscle 1 million horsepower thrust. Anyone saying the ram ship wouldn't survive is like saying if I swung my sledgehammer at a stationary car, the sledgehammer would break.

2. Zero fucking gravity. No friction. No opposing fucking force. With enough time and lactose products, I could fart the Star Destroyer up to 88 MPH, travel back in time and punch Shmi in her pregnant whore stomach.

3. Destroyer Cleave. Admittedly most dubious aspect. The cleaved destroyer was still operating, so it's own momentum and stabilisers would have worked against it. Also it was impacted in a structurally weak part of the ship, compared to the thin and structurally stronger part of the ship used as the "sword". A good analogy would be getting two eggs, and using the pointy end of one egg to hit the midsection of the other egg.
>>
>>81498626
If that freighter was producing enough force to make destroyer A cut through destroyer B, then the frighter would gave just broken through the destroyers haul rather than pushing it

They were fighters 1/50th of the size hitting the ships shields at high velocity, not its hull. This SD had no shields, which is why the hammerhead can physically ram the SD.

>They do those vehicles explode when ramming his destroyer but this hammerhead ship didn't explode when ramming this destroyer?
Because it rammed the SD at a low velocity and then used at strong point in the superstructure of the SD to slowly accelerate the SD sideways after making contact.

That's how retarded that scene was. Its a hopelessly contrived "hero" moment that's meant to be all spectacle. It makes even less sense since star destroyers are supposed to have tie-fighters in them for just this sort of contingency.

They're fucking huge fuck-planet sized ships. The idea that they could be destroyed so easily is retarded.
>>
>>81508115
The SD being pushed got hit by ions so its shields and engines were dead, and its no where near the size of a planet. Stars Wars lore might be hella stupid, but i genuinely think you might just be dumber. >>
>>81507112

Why?

The upper decks of star destroyers are obviously very lightly constructed given that the armored lower deck of the first star destroyer managed to effortlessly slice through the the top deck of the second star destroyer while receiving negligible damage. Your theory is based on the idea that all three impact areas have the same structural strength when the movie makes it pretty clear that both the lower deck of star destroyers and the head of the Hammerhead is much, much stronger than the top decks of star destroyers.

If you want to get autistic about something, try complaining about how the star destroyers rapidly accelerated towards the gravity well for no reason after the crash.
