Batou was probably the only character that was pretty well handled in this whole mess.
GitS was pretty good, had great effects and the look of the film was awesome

Scarlett was okay in the role IMO, the problems with the film had more to do with the plot/focus. By picking the biggest name they could get to play The Major, they had to make the focus of the story about her. That's not inherently a bad thing, but they structured and wrote it in such a way that it never really reached the depth that the original did.
For what it was, I thought it was an okay movie, but the great visuals and actions scenes weren't enough to make up for the dull plot and low-quality dialogue. The whole thing felt like a waste of potential.

Okay but his entire character was completely inconsequential and if he didn't exist, the movie would be exactly the same.
