First person I've seen on here that knows about Homicide. Good shit. Excellent show, but tails off at season 6. You can tell the producers started to focus more on Oz than homicide(same producers on both shows). Kind of a shame it wasnt a hbo show, but for a primetime tv show, it's probably the best one ever.

I like Oz but there' something inherently juvenile about it, like it's trying far too hard to appear gritty and mature while at the same time devolving into melodrama and stretching suspension of disbelief to breaking point. It comes off like it's written by a high-schooler.

It's criminally underrated no doubt. There are so many fantastic episodes though, I love the episode with Robin Williams, the Prison Riot episode is good too, so is the one with Vince D'Onofrio

The Wire has become such a cultural phenomenon in recent years and I wish that the fans who latched onto that show would give Homicide a chance. It's basically The Wire with the focus being only on the homicide unit. Also what a fantastic case

The dialogue is simply better on The Sopranos. The Wire is about the story, The Sopranos is about the characters. This is a matter of taste but I personally like shows that explore the mentality of characters and no show did that like The Sopranos

I loved that Dick Wolf was best friends with Fontana so he would throw him a bone and have some Law and Order characters show up in Homicide and vice-versa just to give a ratings boost to Homicide. Wolf knew that Homicide was the better show and I bet he felt bad about the fact that his bullshit murder-of-the-week show got such better ratings than this true piece of art.

It really is a shame that it didnt recieve more viewers. I saw something behind the scenes that it would do well on the coastal areas, but it would do poorly in the midwest. Not surprising. I think the only reason it lasted 7 seasons was because it was so great. If any other show had that kind of low viewership, like homicide, it would be taken off the air after 2 seasons.
