What the fuck did i just witness?

I put off watching this moviefor years, because i thought it would just be another regular war flick like Saving Private Ryan, but boy was i wrong.

Read the novella by Joseph Konrad and you'll understand the message of the film with more clarity, or the Wasteland by T.S Elliot. if you watch it again you'll probably understand it much better, you don't get much from your first watch because the film moves too quickly.

Apocalypse Now is R rated.
I don't think it's wrong to assume it's just a war flick, even if it's directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
I haven't seen a single actually impactful War Film, they're usually all just "anti war films", which is okay, since war is actually shit, but when the takeaway from all war movies is basically the same i don't feel too compelled to actually watch more of them.

Oh, i believe i somewhat know what it was about, it just blew me away, because i just didn't expect it to be kind of like an odyssey, and i certainly didn't expect all these mind blowing sets. It's 2017 and i can't think of many films this visually impressive. Last time something blew me away visually like this was 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that was more in context of "Wow, this was shot in 1968." whereas Apocalypse Now looks mind blowing, even today.

Did you the redux cut or theatrical?

I like both, but I prefer the theatrical, it has much better pacing. Feel like the "descent into madness" vibe gets across better without stuff like the French plantation scene.

theatrical, because i once asked if i should just go ahead and watch Redux as a first time watcher, and some people said i should watch theatrical and if i like it i should watch Redux some day, cause it's also good.
>>
I watched only Redux and I think it is the best movie ever made
Should I rewatch it in the teatrical version?

Well, if you only watched Redux you'll just feel like things are missing that made the movie feel whole for you previously.

I think watching Redux first is a bad idea
