The DCAU is the closest we can get to having authentic capekino.

Did this show breed a generation of /pol/acks?
>>81368029
Timm influenced the comics so hard, too. So good shit can't remain non canon.
>>81368029
>>81368015
I'm sure it was to increase conflict but why the fuck did the DCAU underpower Superman so much? Even in the finale when Superman is supposed to remove all imposed restraints from his true power and punches Darkseid so hard he warps time and space, he just gets owned by his agony matrix a few seconds later just for Lex to deux ex machina a conclusion.
discuss
>>81369193
BANE?
>>81369166
He wasn't really underpowered, even at his most uncorked Darkseid is just THAT powerful.
I imagine if anything it was to keep the usual whiners who don't read Superman complacent so they wouldn't whine about how easy it is for him to win every fight, in fact most of the way Superman would win fights in his show wasn't by sheer force but by actual tactics.
>>81368102
best luthor on tv or film
>>81369166
they had to do that because supermans character was written in a way where he could do anything and everthing. gold age superman was stupid in terms of what he could do.
the DCAU producers wrote him underpowered in order for the other character could have something to do.
>>81370469
That's why JLU was so brilliant, all Lex ever wanted was to see humanity unite against him.
>>81370469
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are also huge batfags that don't really like (or didn't really like) Supes
Quite funny how their version is one of the better ones on screen
>>81367982
Why don't they make cartoons like this anymore?
>>81368102
Lex was so savage in the show. He truly hated Superman.
>>81370571

For Bats, full nightmare fuel Scarecrow and, to a lesser extent, Robin, I'd agree.
But you also have to take a lot of bad with that.
Namely:
>Pale, black and bland Catwoman
>Mulleted Nightwing (hated that look in the comics as well)
>Cancer survivor Gordon
>Fetish gimp Bane
>Joker with beady eyes and no red lips
And others I'm probably forgetting. There were some real stinkers.
>>81374602
A Superman outline
A-G-L-E-T, (AGLET!) don't forget it
>>81370538
I think the problem was from a writing perspective where the only challenges Superman could face would be either villains with Superman tier strength or have Kryptonite around and that the majority of normal crime he could resolve in just a few hours.

Then Luthor got kryptonite based cancer cause of the consequences of bad writing tropes.

Because Cartoon Network is cancer and only want to make cheap randumb shit.

>Other superheros out fighting bad guys and ending disasters
>Question just hanging out in some freezer and opens a ice cream tub
>"AHA 32 flavors!" then snaps a picture
>>81374671
Nah. There are plenty of stories in the comics where a much more powerful Superman serves a role in a justice league arc that doesn't just solve the whole issues. Magic, threatening the innocent, general deviousness, etc. Can be effective against him.
Timm just literally wanted Batman to be the coolest all the time. Not that it made the show bad, but it contributed to the stereotype of Clark being boring and Bruce being amazing.
>>81374788
>>81374761
They're all about short term profit grabs, they can't factor in shit like DVD sales 20 years later like JLU is safely delivering on.
>>81374709
Uh? Where did I say any of that. I'm just riffing on the fact that the show got away with so much adult shit in spite of the censors. I loved it for that. Like when Hawkgirl remarked to Flash about him saying he's the fastest man alive that that was probably why he couldn't get a date.

>>81375406
I still prefer older DC flicks to the MCU which too often feels like more of the same. But cartoons isn't really that close. I love 90's X-Men and Spider-Man out of nostalgia but they weren't really that great. I think Spectacular Spider-Man was the only one I can think of worth mentioning as really good. Avengers cartoon was alright but nothing amazing.
>>81375548
All the DCAU starting from batman were pretty much written for adults, I don't remember anything remotely Marvel being written at anything beyond babby stuff. I know X-men wasn't but it was vaguely following comics in a pretty good time. I think Marvel always tried to get kids hooked on comics and toys rather than being good for their own sake.
>>81367982
>Huntress - Wow. I never knew the Girl Scouts were responsible for the crop circle phenomenon.

You can tell they had a ton of fun writing him.
>The Question: Reaching back to Ancient Egypt, there's been a single cabal of powerful individuals directing the course of human history. But the common man prefers to believe they don't exist, which aids their success.
>Supergirl: Global warming? Military upheavals in the third world? Actors elected to public office?

>The Question: Who indeed?

I accept that the DCEU is too high level for people to appreciate as kino.
But ain't no way the MCU is better than the DCAU. Few things top the Cadmus plot.

The only things in the MCU that are better are the Netflix shows. Or FX's Legion.

Originally he was just sort of libertarian and preachy rather than being a conspiracy theorist. After JLU-Q I think they sorta brought him back but now he's Renee Montoya (batman TAS original) and thus the DCAU makes comics worth a shit.

>>81376151
There's a little too much awkward forced romance early on, but it starts good and stays solid for both seasons. It does a great job of making the DCU feel integrated in a way that even JLU didnt quite manage all the time; JLU sometimes felt like a lot of separate continuities pasted together.
I also like how YJ uses a lot of lower-tier characters, or at least ones a casual viewer like myself has never heard of, but uses them very effectively (that is, my exposure is through movies, shows and games, but I'm not a comics reader.) People like Red Tornado (et al), Queen Bee, and Cheshire were great and fit in right alongside veteran characters like Lex Luther and Vandal Savage.

She was Terry's Catwoman. It was a move that pushed terry farther away from being THE batman. He was a family man who legit had a girlfriend and all that.
Ten was pretty fantastic but like Terry knew it couldn't work out and he didn't want a life of being cockblocked by his/her various work.

>>81378872
>revels in their goofiness
At times. But like 99% of the time, they were earnest as hell. They didn't feel the need to make fun of themselves.
And they show a lot of characters as pretty deeply damaged. Look at how angry Superman gets over both Darkseid and Lex (that whole episode where Lex baits him into fighting Captain Marvel out of paranoia).
Look at the Huntress trying to murder her father's killer. Or Wild Cat being so desperate to feel relevant that he resorts to illegal cage matches with supervillains.
There's a lot of pretty heavy topics in the DCAU. And they play it straight most of the time. That's what I like about it.
>>81379510
Bondage fetishism is a big part of Wonder Woman's past.
>>81379531
>And they show a lot of characters as pretty deeply damaged. Look at how angry Superman gets over both Darkseid and Lex
Being angry isn't "deeply damaged" snyderlard. Get the fuck back to /r/dc_cinematic.

The best thing about Terry is that feel like he can redeem the Batman legacy. That he can do it, but not end up bitter and crazy and alone like Bruce.
Having a functional romance with a normal person was great. Especially seeing the Epilogue and knowing she stuck by him even when she found out

>>81369166
The one that was weird for me was The Flash.
In one scene he's getting punched in the face by normie villains or getting defeated by slipping on ice or some shit, but then they'll give him an episode where brainiac is wrecking the entire justice league and flash takes him out by himself by circling the earth like 20 times in a minute and almost gets sucked into the speed force.

>>81379562
Getting so fucking pissed and paranoid that you wreck an entire city is damaged. I don't know what kind of home life you lead, but watching people lose their shit like that is not normal.
Whoever is doing that in your life, you should encourage them to seek help.
>>81379660
He was never really serious, that was his whole thing. It was almost never life or death sorts of odds with Flash and not even the rest of the original 7 took him seriously.
>That was for CHARITY Clark
>>81374483
Man.. Somebody post the Black Canary and Green Arrow sparring scene.
>>81379431
How the fuck can the DCU compare with this shit? They fucking can't. TDKR is fucking fantastic animation.
>>81379431
Part 1 is great. I felt like part 2 wasn't as good as the first but overall enjoyable.
Honestly I probably liked it more just because of Peter Weller and my fucking love for robocop.
>>81379660
Flash owning brainiac was fucking beautiful the music was perfect
>>81379774
A-are you me?
>>81379770

>>81379787
Yeah, that whole scene is amazing. I remember being completely blown away by it the first time I watched it. Really made me reevaluate the Flash, and made him much more interesting on rewatches.
>>81379882
>ywn smash Tara Strong as she cycles through her various characters voices
>>81379806
As much as I love those guys you are aware that TDKR is a shot for shot adaption of probably the best batman comic right?
>>81379887
We got Killing Joke andI liked it a lot. Probably not very long, they're bent on doing every revered comic book story at this point.
>>81379774
Both good, the second just had a huge scale of fuckedness.
>Superman starts WW3 on accident
>>81379888
Well just look at when Lex had him, in like 5 minutes he'd already become badass enough to basically rip apart the whole JL solo by being a bad guy.
>>81379930
The Killing Joke was an amazing book that got turned into a seriously meh movie. I was really disappointed with it.
>>81379930
Im absolutely fine with that.
>>81379882
Arleen will never be topped as far as voice but Tara definitely in dress up.
>>81379916
Absolutely, yes, animated well, directed well, paced well, and voiced spectacularly well. You can do shot for shot and still be shit, they fucking nailed it and made my favourite Batman movie ever. Shame Killing Joke was such a fucking pile of shit.
>>81379916
Aced the voice acting, the animation was GOD-tier, the atmosphere was pitch perfect and the score was the best Batman has ever seen. All these things are not related to the comic book itslef but to an excellent crew that worked on what was almost a passion project, Credit where credit's due.
>>81379916
>TDKR is a shot for shot adaption
which is why I fucking hated it so much
I've already read The Dark Knight Returns multiple times.
The movie has great voice acting, but other than that offers nothing new.
Like every WB/DC animated movie the animation is pretty shit.
>>81379983
>the animation was GOD-tier
t. Someone Who Knows Nothing About Animation
Does Teen Titans hold up? Like at least as good as Beyond?
>>81380000
If you want new why are you watching an adaptation?
>>81380000
The animation was pretty fucking nice in that movie. Most WB/DC animation is mediocre, this one seemed to have enough people giving a shit.
>>81380022
I don't even hate the DCEU animation, it's CGIshit but it doesn't look awful most of the time and they're producing constantly.
>>81380022

>>81380068
lol and it all ties into his fucking conspiracy cork board shit.
>the taxi driver ID thing is obviously wrong in the shot
Little details.
>>81380078
Beyond was really decent but redeemed in the JLU Epilogue and the joker movie.
>>81380078
I haven't watched Beyond in 15 years. I really should get on that shit, does it still hold up?
>>81379979
I don't see what the hate for the Killing Joke movie is about. I mean you basically have an animated series episode as a lead up. Like here's Batman and Barbara doing regular Bat Family shit before the Joker shoots her in the spine out of nowhere
People triggered by them banging on the roof really don't "get" Batman's love life. Like he routinely is attracted to women who cannot work out for him. Barbara fits the mold perfectly
Helps I grew up with Batman Beyond and the reference they drop (or the episode of BTAS "Batgirl Returns" that starts with Babs fantasizing about Batman)
>>81374483
>that scene where she wants a real date
>suggests dinner and a movie
>Huntress admits its a "start" and shoves the hard drive in her pants
This show man
>>81380114
Very obvious codependent children he trains, too. They know they can't have a father/love interest/whatever out of him. They can't leave each other.

>voiced my Roz
Volcana doesn't get enough love
In Batman Beyond, Terry fights this pale guy in white clothes. He uses telepathic powers. What was his name?
>>81376272
Yeah he's essentially a Zen master, JLU was the only super conspiracy minded Question. Both are GOAT in their own right
>>81380134
The fact that he constantly clamjams her and she still wants it is testimony to how hard she has it.
>>81380034

>>81379882
She is by far the worst Harley voice. Thank god shes done.
>>81380266
>This. They could have done so much more with Gordon on the ride going crazy
Yup. Gordon is the key to that whole story and they didn't do shit with him.
>>81380160
I honestly thought she was Mercy Graves' voice actress. I know the voice of cutty and that wasn't it.
Also in reference to the animation anyone else really really like Flashpoint Paradox peter-chung Kal El?
>>81377333
Theres a story that Timm tells how he wanted to have a scene with the Joker pulling some mundane heist. As he burst out of the building he sees Batman holding Wonder Pig under his arm causing the Joker to drop the bag of money sad he couldn't compete with that level of comedy
