Zorro has long been played by white actors, he's a nobleman of Spanish ancestry, not a New World native. And Hopkins was cast centrally for the role of old Zorro.

Well whatever, a Spanish person then.

Zorro's supposed to be a white Mediterranean person. Mestizos were the peasants and surfs not the landlords.

Because there's a whole sequence at the beginning of the movie that tries to make a 60 year old, slightly overweight Hopkins come off as a 40 year old swashbuckling adventure hero. The old mentor stuff I can deal with but this was just bizarre to watch, even if he only did the closeups.
