Way back like in '11, they included the user name with the reviews and some people used it as a platform to become amateur critics. They nixed that right around the time the navigation got TV friendly.

Every time they tweak their model they fuck it up, beginning with that and continuing with the attempt at divorcing the streaming service into a whole new subsidiary. It was a fucking disaster.

I killed my sub and regret nothing.

Ok but is it actually a real rating or a "here's what we think you'll think of it thanks to a bunch of dumb analytical bullshit" rating like the star ratings?
>>
>>81308772
It's about time to cancel Netflix. I don't give a shit about netflix series or comedy specials anyway.
>>
>>81308772
Their star ratings are so out of whack. This is prob gonna be better.
>>
Thank God I left them for Amazon Prime
>>
>>81308816
I think it mostly just makes something that would be a "3 star" look better, potentially even better than things that might have been rated higher if it happens to have very broad appeal despite middling quality. Basically the same shit people complain about when they talk about Rotten Tomatoes
>>
It's objectively a better system. Fags on Yelp will give anything that they moderately liked a 5 star and the tiniest issue a 1 star.

So now instead of Amy Schumer receiving a 1 star rating she'll receive 5 billion thumbs down?

How does this solve their problem?

It's about as mediocre at netflix tbqhwy

they do offer add-on subs which is most of a network's content for like $8 a month. I think those jews at HBO charge $15. They've literally subverted cable.

Can someone tell me how this makes Amy Schumer look good? She makes a terrible stand up special, starts crying about trolls giving it one star, so Netflix caters to her by changing their whole voting system, which I assume will reset the rating on her special. She comes off as a spoiled brat who didn't get exactly what she wanted.

Sounds good to me, honestly. As long as people don't downvote anything they consider less than five stars, it'll lead to people watching more movies instead of forgoing stuff that has three stars or something. Then they'll be able to judge it for themselves.

>>

Bloodline was amazing (only seen first season, though), season 2 of Marco Polo was really good, Stranger Things (even if criminally overrated) was good, Beast of no Nation was really good, Narcos was great.
And I shamelessly enjoyed some of their new Nipp-shit. Both Tokyo Stories and Good Morning Call was truly comfy.

It's a shame that they obviously are going with quantity > quality, though. But they do release some good stuff.

They really did need an overall on rating system though, a 5 to 1 star rating system is flawed in itself as you should base movies and tv off many different elements then jus an arbitrary number or star. Btw I browse Reddit and like Rick and Morty ;)

It's essentially the same thing as the star system, only its function is more obvious. Because people only give 1 star, 5 stars, or don't rate it at all. Which is functionally exactly the same as thumbs up/down system.

And people are more likely to rate with a thumbs up/down system because it's simpler.

Maybe every movie with one star ratings was targeted by alt-right trolls. They could have used Russian hackers to subvert and influence the Netflix democratic voting system. Nothing else makes sense. I checked and it's a personalized recommendation system. Basically Netflix says you will 98% enjoy this show if you've thumbed up a certain amount of shows. The star reviews still exist so it is not a big deal. You can still see whether a movie/show is good or bad. The thumb system just makes choosing a film easier based on your personal tastes.
