I think De Niro's big black wife spends all his money -- there were reports of him yelling at her recently in a restaurant in Tribeca. Pacino is another story. Some people believed him getting Oscar cucked for Godfather Part II drove him to insanity, a mental state where you can only yell. I think there's another reason though, it might be financial, something about him not being able to get films made (Jack & Jill was the crux of his problems).
