You really do need to get into the mindset of a Redditor to understand why this show is so popular. These people have never heard of adult animation in their lifes that wasn't stuff like Family Guy, it was completely alien to them. And they can't laugh at these shows because they consider these shows stupid. They want a show that isn't necessarily smart or funny or well-written, but that appears to be to appeal to their surface-level taste. Because these people live for that mindless self-validation. They don't actually understand what makes for good writing or good comedy, nor have they ever picked a book about physics. They want to pretend they do so and circlejerk themselves, that's what matters. Rick and Morty is just perfect for its demographic: these same college-age self-important Bernouts who "fucking love science". The entire foundation of the show is built upon the dichotomy between "silly sci-fi humor and references" and " things are super deep and tragic bro". This pseudo-intellectual "nothing even matters, I'm insecure about existence, we are all going to die" bullshit that R&M shits out in almost every episode is what appeals to it's audience. The show doesn't actually have the tact to even begin to offer an interesting presentation and discussion of any philosophy, so it spouts these edgy teenage catchphrases. Nevermind the bean-headed, noodle-limbed unexpressive character design, or how the story is non-existent and only comes up when the writers beg you to feel something for these characters so devoid of substance, or how the entire show is a trendy forgettable scenario of the week memefest with just enough sci-fi references to trick kids into thinking they are smart for understanding them, or how the characters have somehow been reduced to even more obnoxious caricatures than before, none of these things matter. I never disliked this show, I don't understand the hatred for it honestly. I think I figured it out the other day though, because I have an asshole roommate who refuses to like anything good. I was watching a show with him and there was a scene where a bunch of really awesome shit was happening, but his reaction to it was essentially to say "this is dumb" and then start nitpicking it and trying to find flaws in it. I realized shortly after he did this that there's a clear line of rationality to this kind of behavior, and I think it's the reason /tv/ hates things too.

Basically, I think this is how your brains work:
You see something that you think is amazing and/or cool and/or interesting or funny or whatever, and instead of just going with that and admitting to yourself that you think it's a good thing, you somehow immediately think instead, "I bet some faggot thinks this is cool" and then all of a sudden you so desperately don't want to be that faggot that you snap yourself out of liking what you're seeing and become an enemy of what you're seeing, because if you admitted that you liked it you would be putting yourself in with a group of people that you assume you hate. So, I think this is the crux of the problem. You pysche yourself out of liking something just because you like it and you think that maybe because a person you don't like might like it also you decide you can't possibly like it.

Why do you do this? Do you understand how fucking retarded this is? This isn't a competition, fuckfaces. This is entertainment. It's designed for you to enjoy it. If you consciously dislike something because you don't want to be associated with the other people that like it then you're just being a pussy-ass faggot and you should really rethink your life because your prioritites are FUCKING INSANE!!!!!

Why do they feel the need to explain every fucking joke in Bojack Horseman? Why do characters go through life-changing crises and forget about them two episodes later? Why is every line of dialog obnoxious character exposition?

The only reason I stayed for 2 seasons of that bullshit is for the animal puns which are pretty good but Bojack is 10000000% more reddit than Rick and Morty

Tbh that's what I thought all 4channers were like for a long time (the infantile memes and immaturity). I even thought Reddit was a more polished and mature i.e. nicer 4chan. But then I noticed that everyone has a place where people with chips on their shoulder congregate to be snarky and mean. Also the snark pits have people who are nice. Someone was nice to me on /pol/ this morning even after I said I was a Jew. That made me feel good for three minutes.

But I defitely would be lying if I denied that I get a great sense of macabre satisfaction out of seeing a bunch of people agree with me that R&M isn't the the most genius show on TV. I hated hearing about it when it first came out, and even though I did enjoy the show I still hated constantly hearing about how amazing it is and seeing all the wubbalubbadubdub memes repeated over and over. Like if I had no interaction with the fans at all then I'd probably have a higher opinion of it.

Part of me just doesn't want to give them the satisfaction. I don't want their annoying droning to be rewarded.

It should probably be noted that almost every single major figure in the atheist movement is Jewish. You could make a compelling argument that atheism is specifically being pushed by Jews in today's society, and they seem to largely be targeting western Christians and only them.

And what about atheist Jewish public entertainers that constantly run down Christianity? I'm sure I'm close to the post cap, so rather than just name the rest of Hollywood, you get the point.

I don't hate it. I just hate the people who act as if it's original. With exception to the alternate universe thing, Venture Bros did most of R&M's material better. I thought VB was funnier, had better comedic timing, more interesting characters, satirized science fiction better, and even pulled off pathos better. But I never hear anyone bring that up. It's wall to wall, "Rick and Morty is so genius! It's for smart people! So clever!" And I want to sperg out like there's no tomorrow.

It's like the people who quote the latest seasons of South Park saying, "You PC bro?" and bringing up those stupid fucking member berries. JMJ, if they think that's the good stuff they might have aneurysms watching the first few seasons.

They're for different audiences. VB aims for the Hanna Barbera audience, and specifically the ones that knew things besides Scooby Doo and the Flintstones existed. Not a humongous net you're casting. It's also an adventure show which as you know is doomed no matter what it is or what it's about.

Rick and Morty goes straight for sci-fi which has a wider base appeal, and having the obvious connection to a movie as saturated in our pop culture as Back to the Future, you've got a lot more people willing to sit down and give it that first chance. It's also less off-putting, you might say. It's crass as fuck but does it in a weird palatable way while Venture Bros. revels in the awkwardness of all its characters.
