Rio Bravo is good but a little overrated. It's a film about alcoholism, rather than a straight up Western. The Angie Dickinson romance is completely forced and unbelievable too. John Wayne had a lot of charisma, but not when it came to romance subplots.

I think HN is good, but not great. And thematically, what the fuck does that movie have with McCarthyinism anyway? Was Gary Cooper supposed to be the writer? I don't get it. Besides, Cooper stays in the town not because of principle, but because he realizes it'd be easier for him to defend there rather than running away and being caught anyway. Wayne and Hawks were right, a sheriff running around and crying for some help is just silly.
