No, but I can name some books and games that do this very well.

Of course: Saw series is close but not really any LOGIC. Some traps fit though.

but there's also Higurashi (it's manga) (stuck in a time loop and have to figure out the mystery). I'm blanking on a few others. Probably because they weren't too good, but they are horror/thrillers.

What about that movie where they are stuck in the elevator with the devil?

For Games, there are TWO series:
>Zero Escape (9 people locked in a ship/building and have to solve puzzles to escape. Work together or betray people to survive. First 2 are great. Third is so-so). has traps and death.
>Danganronga series (First game: 15 students locked in their high school with memory erased. To successfully escape they have to murder a classmate and get away with it. You collect clue, talk to people (a la dating sim ALMOST), and have class trials. If you fail, you die to an execution. If the murderer fails, they die. As you play, you unravel the mystery behind it).

These are VISUAL novels, so close to books but with good music and art.

In one of these threads someone once posted an IMDB list of movies that take place in one room. I think a lot of those fit the bill here. Movies where people that don't know each other are placed in one confined area usually have them work together/against each other to solve a problem.

My friends and I used to watch these types of films all the time. We ended up calling them room films. People stuck inside some enclosed space must overcome trials and tribulations in order to survive and or solve a mystery.

I even composed a list of these films while we were watching them.

Circle (2015)
Cube (1997)
Cube ^2 Hypercube (2002)
Exam (2009)
Devil (2010)
Fermat's Room (2007)
ATM (2012)
Nine Dead (2010)
Would You Rather (2012)
The Divide (2011)

Honorable Mentions
Saw (2004)
Cube Zero (2004)
Buried (2010)
Europa Report (2013)
Rope (1948)

Films I haven't seen but heard are similar.
Frozen
247oF
Phone Booth (2002)
The Game (1997)
Elevator (2011)
Deathtrap (1982)
The Interview (1998)
The Hole (2001)
Unknown (2006)
The Killing Room (2009)
House of 9 (2005)
Panic Button (2011)
Blackout (2008)
Alpha Alert (2013)
The Employer (2013)
Hunger (2009)

To be honest almost every single DR case and Zero Escape puzzle were really easy. Also if you're gonna read the Higurashi manga as that one anon suggested, you could also read the VN instead.

Unrelated to the room escape stuff but if you enjoy higurashi I'd also highly recommend umineko, and only the VN this time.
>>
>>81071513
Nah, ZE puzzles had some hard ones. DR is easy enough. The only hard parts literally becomes memes in hindsight.

>Umineko
Higurashi is better. You can read the manga for Umineko if you must but the story drags on. Good music though.

Lambda best girl though. Damn, I love how the series makes you love certain characters you originally hate
>>
>>81071583
Umineko is basically my favorite story ever so I'm gonna have to disagree that higurashi is better. I do agree that Lambda is best girl though. Ep 8 really changed my opinion of her.
>>
>>81071634
Umineko is just too long and repeats the same character bullshit:
"WAAAH, I WON'T PLAY"-battler 3 times, beatrice twice.
>Mystery is solved by NOT MAIN CHARACTER
(I see the logic behind his and I don't even think it was a bad choice)

The main mystery in Higurashi is better too and more realistic. Also a happier and satisifying end. I don't fault Umineko's end too much but... could have thrown the fans a bit more of a bone.

Let me find the /a/ summary of it...

You prefer it to even DR?

I loved Umineko's ending, that scene with battler and yasu on the boat makes me tear up every time.

Yeah, I much prefer it to DR. DR is too goofy for me to take super seriously. Its most outstanding factors are its characters and its stylization. For example, Junko and Nagito are some of my all time favorite VN characters but that doesn't change the fact that the idea of "despair" spreading like a disease to the point where the world ends is so goofy its teetering the edge of suspension of disbelief.

Really the reasons I like Umineko are so numerous they would take longer to type out than I'd like, so I'd rather not.

Cube is not unfortunate. They had it coming, that's the whole point.
>>
>>81071841
Give me some reasons you like it then even if you don't wanna go overboard. I can say I like most characters but it gets too supernaturally and too many fight scenes. As I said, more than half the cast doesn't even exist and literally to hard to remember. And even by the end, you can't properly explain certain things. Who the fuck is the witch hunter then? Is he real?

I did like it but too much weak parts and dragging things.

I think disappointment is really my problem: The PREMISE is great. Presentation iffy. I feel the backstory for alot of it doesn't really matter either and is filler. Who cares about Ange's witch backstory or Maria's witch bs?

fair enough, I can see why you'd prefer it over DR though.

Best story for me is Negima. Always. Best characters, best mysteries

I've debating the Yasu thing way too many times, but whatever. Natsuhi and Krauss never knew, why would they? They have a shit ton of servants and prior to the family conference Shannon and Kanon never worked the same day at the same time, so they never had a side by side comparison. Theres no reason they'd notice something like that about servants that were to them trivial, especially considering how many lengths Yasu went to hide it. Obviously Genji Nanjo and Kumasawa knew but played along because they felt bad/were subservient to Yasu. I will give you that it is a little strange Jessica didn't notice, considering how close she was to both of them. Though, to be honest, would you ever really suspect 2 of your friends, male and female, were the same person just because they had similar looking faces? Like what would you do, just ask? What if they said no? Do you just accept it? No one would ever seriously entertain that idea.

>Who the fuck is the witch hunter then? Is he real?

You really didnt realize that hes a meta representation of Van Dine's 20 rules of mystery stories? It's pretty in your face. Willard H. Wright is one of Van Dine's pen names. Willard says he used to work for the S.S.V.D. division in heaven, VD standing for Van Dine. ALL of the meta characters in the story have a meaning, either a parallel to the real world or a meta representation of the mystery genre. Ask for each character and I can tell you why they exist if you want. Except Gaap, even I'm not really sure about that one.

Featherine exists because she represents Hachijou Tohya, the person who co-wrote the episode 4,5, and 6 forgeries. She also represents the concept of an author, well really its a little more complex than that but I don't remember all the thinking I did about her so I'll just leave it at that.

Takano was just a piece of Lambda's. If you didn't realize Higurashi was a game between Featherine and Lambda in the same way Umineko was a game between Battler and Beatrice.

The difference is in Higurashi the main character wasn't Featherine's piece, it was Rika, though Featherine was always close by as Hanyuu. The game is what turned Rika into Bern as well obviously.
