With Hayley, I can easily imagine how you'd write her as definitely the Doctor, but totally different from the last four Doctors.

Not as Agent Carter, who's obviously super-competent and only gets underestimated because she's a woman. That worked great for a 1950s period piece, but it would suck for Doctor Who.

Instead, you write her more like Emma Peel. Someone who appears to be a fun-loving dilettante adventurer who's going to fall apart when shit gets real, and that's why people underestimate her. (And then, when shit gets real, that's when she turns into Agent Carter.)

And I can see even more obvious ways to make some other female actors work as great Doctors, like Tilda Swinton or Olivia Colman.

For Phoebe Waller-Bridge, I can't imagine anything better than Tennant, but in smug mode more often, and a woman, and there's nothing interesting about that.

Series 5 Smith is the best Doctor ever in my opinion. It's a shame they ruined 11 by getting rid of the mad hair, and making him look sleek and sharp.

What I loved about 11 was his raggedy-ness and his bizarre mix of old and young. He's by far the most doctory Doctor, along with Tom Baker. Sadly it's only present in S5. S6-7 Smith is too sleek.
