They never refer much to the ordinary citizens of earth, but i bet there's a lot of shut-ins. Nobody needs to work or do anything, only the try-hards are a minority joining starflet. Maybe this why they never mention it - most earth is neets, they fly away to get away from it.

>>
>>81023408
DS9, aka Deep Sleep Nine.
The series was basically a huge "fuck you" to everything Gene Roddenberry, TOS, and TNG established.
The only episodes that fans think are great are the ones most like ST TOS, and TNG.
>>
>>81023769
>The series was basically a huge "fuck you" to everything Gene Roddenberry

This is Mr. Repost's set-up to the ">Roddenberry was a" pasta.

He's done it a million times.
>>
>>81023769
this is sadly true

TOS and TNG were about human can become better than what we currently are and build a better future, then DS9 happened and humans were just the same depraved, evil, mean spirited creatures as always which I guess makes it "realistic" but totally destroys what Star Trek was about to turn the show into another one of the thousand that focus on the bad aspects of humanity

Do what? Where in the series was this ever a pattern? Most of the unethical stuff was done by the alien races, mainly Cardassians.

You'll have to list at least 20-25 episodes and not on some tenuous b-plot thread either.

The series was welcome departure from "we're on a ship in space traveling to and fro" and made the aliens and tenants of DS9 a large alien tapestry, a hub of sorts, upon which this large backdrop was illustrated over many years.

You don't have to like it, but it definitely wasn't bad and two or three episodes of Sisko making questionable decisions or two or three episodes of Section 31 making the questionable decisions does not make your post true whatsoever.
>>
>>81024094

Many people have trouble accepting that people in a different time could seem different from us. In Star Trek they had cured all our struggles with technology, and they were doing so good they were out in space helping others.

We live in cynical times when our future seems to point more in the direction of Idiocracy than of Star Trek.

Still it is easy to be cynical, to blame others, to want to be the pretend online comedians then to risk believing in something greater than ourselves.
I suppose it could be a lack of imagination, lack of true inspiration.

Official True Facts Copypasta for Star Trek: Discovery [version 0.9.3]

The Good
>created by Bryan Fuller
>Rod "my father is a shitbag" Roddenberry producing
>Nicholas Meyer (Star Treks II, IV and VI) in the writers' room
>Joe Menosky (Darmok and other classics) in the writers' room
>Jason Isaacs as captain of the USS Discovery
>Doug Jones as a science officer on the USS Discovery
>Anthony Rapp as another science officer on the USS Discovery
>Michelle Yeoh as a recurring character and the captain of another ship, the USS Shenzhou
>airing on Netflix worldwide (except in America and Canada)

The Neutral
>Sonequa Martin-Green as the executive officer (and lead character) of the USS Discovery
>Mary Wiseman as a cadet interning on the USS Discovery
>James Frain as Young Sarek
>Terry Serpico as a Starfleet Admiral
>Maulik Pancholy and Sam Vartholomeos as recurring characters on the USS Shenzhou
>some Klingons on another ship are recurring characters
>TOS era
>delayed until Fall 2017
>but at least they finally started filming in January

The Bad
>Bryan Fuller has left, saying "I’m not involved in production, or postproduction"
>Alex Kurtzman producing
>Akiva Goldsman producing
>first episode on TV, then all subsequent episodes only on CBS All Access (in America)
>a fucking prequel

That's it. That's all we know about STD. Everything else is rumors and guesses.

I've seen all of Bryan Fuller's Star Trek episodes and don't think he's very good. I've also watched some Pushing Daisies and Hannibal episodes and I really don't like him.
>Rod "my father is a shitbag" Roddenberry producing
Rod Roddenberry is a disrespectful jerk who has no accomplishments besides having the name Roddenberry.
>Joe Menosky (Darmok and other classics) in the writers' room
Darmok is not only overrated, but also one of the worst episodes EVER of TNG.
>Jason Isaacs as captain of the USS Discovery
Jason Isaacs at best is merely okay, and the captain is set to be a secondary character in this series. Or is that just a rumor and guess?
>Doug Jones as a science officer on the USS Discovery
>Anthony Rapp as another science officer on the USS Discovery
No idea who these people are. If they're amazing actors who bring a lot to the table, please forgive this oversight.
>Michelle Yeoh as a recurring character and the captain of another ship, the USS Shenzhou
The bitch who ruined Supercop isn't an asset, anywhere, ever.
>airing on Netflix worldwide (except in America and Canada)
Netflix is cancer.

Contrarian is an impotent insult, it means nothing other than disagreeing with the majority.

If you don't worship Hillary Clinton, you're a contrarian.
>>
>>81032373

not him and I agree with most of that list except for maybe Darmok and the Netflix part.
It is overrated but not bad either.
You've inflated your list and it needs serious amending unless you are a shill doing your job.

Rod Roddenberry being involved means nothing, the guy created two documentaries in his life, never actually wrote anything

Whoever doug jones and anthony rapp are, having a " gay exomycologist" being played by one of them sounds like a bad joke if you think about the shape of a mushroom.

michelle yeoh is a worse asian actor than Linda Park who played Sato on Enterprise and when it was announced I was confused as to how she would fit in as a rather drab mannequin but im willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

I thought about this as well. In fact, it makes no sense for wanting homosexuality in Star Trek because in that future/universe they would have already found a cure for it. In fact, the Eugenics program proves my theory. According to ST lore, the Eugenics program proved successful by making supermen perfect in every accept where it counts the most: the soul. In the DS9 episodes where it was disovered that Bashir was an augment they mentioned that genetic augmentation was only for people with defects. Obviously, faggotry would have been cured right along with depression and pedophilia.
>>
>>81032470
>Rod Roddenberry being involved means nothing, the guy created two documentaries in his life, never actually wrote anything

>You should actually watch his Trek Nation documentary. It's pretty good. He appreciates Star Trek without worshipping it, and he's unafraid to call out bullshit for what it is.

I did, I agree, and that's all immaterial to the creation of science fiction on television.

It was essentially "my daddy's not that special" the film.

Please tell me how his work, or lack thereof, makes it great?

For fuck's sake, he was thumbs upping everything JJ did and clearly seemed more interested in behind the scenes issues so it's two-fold irrelevant information in regards to the potential quality of the new show.

Homosexuality is natures response to over population, in Wrath of Khan the genesis device was created to counter galactic over population ergo homosexuality still exists in the 23rd century.

How can there be overpopulation in a post-scarcity society with access to countless planets?
>>
>>81046812
Well there are only a certain number of planets that can sustain carbon based life forms, out of all those the federation can only use the unpopulated ones within their borders. They talk about the genesis device solving this issue but I'm just extrapolating using certain dialogue from WoK

Holy shit generations was terrible. I didn't remember it to be that bad. Worst with I and V.

Also what's the chance we get new good trek anytime soon? Are they planning new movies?

Nah, I got pretty bummed out after the second one, but will watch it soon. I heard it was better at least.

Trek had some great movies and some really terrible, so I'll always have hope at least. Even the first 15 minutes of generations was pretty Kino.

>Also what's the chance we get new good trek anytime soon?

Yet another sad victim of garbage trek addiction.

You were already given good Trek, but to no avail. Your problem lies in the fact that you were fed garbage trek for so long that you became accustomed to eating garbage. Then when you were finally served a bit of Enterprise, which is actually the Prime Rib of Star Trek, your acquired taste for garbage forced you to spit it out as if it were poison.

How very unfortunate for you.
>>
>>81055640
Huh. An alright joke I guess.
>>
>>81055756
Beyond isn't perfect but it is the best trek since first contact.

I recently watched through the franchise in chronologically starting with enterprise and it balances the next gen movies well but it also makes it to obvious how little thought was put into them from a writing perspective. Next generation should've ended with a multiple episode arc crossing over with TOS and all good things should've been the first movie
>>
>>81056037

How do you do it?

Like what kind of life do you live to continually play this role in every Trek thread where anything that isn't Enterprise or a benign inquiry into the new Trek is aggressively shot down as "queer" and some other unintelligible nonsense that even you probably don't understand.

I think you're a closeted homosexual and you're now a victim of your own trolling.

Now go on and respond with a picture of Picard in dress uniform.

Lol. Yeah, to hear faggots tell it, everyone who is disgusted by faggots are actually secret faggots.

Oh, the projection.

Can it, you sniveling sissy. That shit doesn't fly anymore. Bottom line: Faggotry is a mental disorder. Always has been, and always will be.
>>
>>81056697
See what I mean? You claim I'm projecting but by not actually addressing the post you've gone in to full deflection mode and you're the one who reposts constantly homoerotic imagery.

Sorry, dude. You're obsession can very much be misconstrued as overcompensating for fear of being seen as homosexual. Which is a very real fear of closeted men.

I dare you to actually address both of my posts.
>>
>>81056794
Why do so many faggots delude themselves with the notion that straight men are "afraid" of homos?

You stupid moron. Disgust does not equal fear. What you queers want is for people to be afraid of expressing their disgust.

Too bad. That's not going to happen.

I finally saw Beyond, it was okay. I don't know why some people were saying it was amazing. The Story was bland and the villain was fucking stupid. It was more enjoyable than the other two at least (Yorktown and the USS Franklin were cool also).

Seriously though can these films come up with something other than "Dude bad guy with a scary ship(s) wants revenge lmao" for once?

The old movies only had one story like that, most of the time they were doing fun shit like going back in time to get some whales or finding God.

Thank you for again deflecting away from my points.

It's not that you say you are disgusted by homosexuals (yeah, sure you are), it's that you live a role of being disgusted at every avenue, to the point of going out of your way to post about your disgust over and over and over again when gays are entirely irrelevant with the posts themselves.

I'm sorry to announce this to you but you might just be a poofter in denial.

You really are one to talk about obsession, lol.

Tell me, what about my post >>81056037 -
which contained not a single word about homosexuality - prompted you to start this convo with me in regard to your own obsession with faggotry in your immediate reply here >>81056303 ?

Why can't you just accept the fact that you're a disgusting degenerate and move on?

Because you're not normal. That's why.
>>
>>81057995

You fuck dudes, it's pretty much apparent at this point.

My first response here - >>81056303 was discussing your entire posting modus operandi which is to call out any Trek other than Enterprise as queer "and some other unintelligible nonsense that even you probably don't understand".

Because you lack the critical thinking to connect the dots that your continual, obsessive posting and reposting is nothing but the ramblings of a gay man in denial?

No, you can't claim the high ground now by me pointing out your recidivist shitposting behavior here - >>81057546 - with complete screencap going back to September.

If you didn't respond to every post with "fag" or "queer" somewhere in it and the frightened NEED to make anyone and everyone around you seem homosexual, then maybe you'd actually get legit responses from people who frequent these threads.

You're a shitposting fraud who hates himself secretly and needs to come up with something original, come out of the closet to what's left of your family, or just leave.

You lack the wherewithal and courage to do any of the three unfortunately.
