okay, I'll be serious for a post. I'm not talking about visual effects, I thought that they were pretty effective outside of the scenes where Godzilla is creating an avalanche of cars while he drags himself through the streets. The movie wasn't awful, but it felt as if I was watching an even more unintelligent and presumptuous Evangelion. I was really bothered by the characters and the dialogue. Of course I can forgive unnatural phrasing in a movie that has been translated, but the ideas themselves being presented were contrived as hell. If the movie wasn't trying so hard to be insightful, I wouldn't mind the shitty writing. Better not to try than to try and fail.

Juvenile Trash? Do you hold a similar opinion about Dr. Strangelove (closest thing I can think to the compare it to at the moment)? The only time I remember having an issue with the dialogue is right after the decision to nuke Japan is revealed. In particular the scene where we get the reactions of Rando's team. Otherwise, I recall the dialogue being solid at worst. And the characters were simple but likable, like the Godzilla films of the 50s and 60s. The "humans sucks" complaint applies more to the films of the last few decades than anything.

The movie wasn't really shown in my country, so this is the first opportunity I have to watch the full film.

Is it just me or is every piece of music taken from some where else in this film? The Eva music sort of fits but it's also a huge fanwank of Anno and gets old like the 4th time it's done.

Pacing needs a lot of work. Good start and it's creepy, then Godzilla just stops being a threat for the entire 3rd act because fuck it why not make it chill for 2 weeks for no real purpose?

I liked the overall message but it needed to be less pushy with it. We didn't need 10 senses of the same 3 people repeating the same lines. Could have cut the run time down about half an hour and had a much better paced movie.
