I rewatched this movie today, and I realized the reason the honeymoon scene was shot the way it was, with her taking her top off, was to convey the fact that this was Michael taking her virginity.

The first shot of Italy in the movie is of Michael herding lambs- that has to be symbolic or relevant.

There was such a purity to those scenes, then marred by bloodshed.

I think it's the one movie that was not only very popular and well regarded when it came out, but is still very popular and well regarded decades later.

Most movies are a hit with audiences, or critics, not bothm or they're a hit when they come out but not later (Gone With The Wind), or ignored when they came out but become famous later (Citizen Kane)

But The Godfather remains near the top of everyone's lists.

So many little details in the movie that pay off. Even in the first scene- like Paulie's betrayal (won't see him no more). The first scene he's being yelled at by Clemenza for not doing his job, then he considers taking the cash wedding gifts.

The very first shot of Sonny is him looking at the fat girl he fucks, then telling his wife "Watch the kids closely, don't let them run around" since he obviously wants to fool around without his wife snooping. Then when Sonny is fucking the fat girl in the bathroom the kids are running around all the rooms of the house.

The scene where Clemenza is killed you see him through a chinese restaurant window with a goldfish on it. That foreshadows the message that he sleeps with the fishes, but also tons of deaths in the movie that happen through glass.

Moe Green is shot through his glasses.

Carlo's death is shot through the windshield and then he even kicks the windshield out.

One of the bosses is shot through a glass revolving door.

Sonny is shot through his car windows.
