i don't get how people are even able to eat an entire pizza in one sitting. i usually have half, and then save the rest for later that day or lunch the next. i don't think it's the type of food people that's the problem, rather the quantity. most meals at restaurants are also too big for me - i end up chucking the sides (potatoes, fries etc) most of the time. pasta is usually the worst, sometimes i never even finish half of my portion.

You're probably a complete skelly but the basic mechanism (pre-morbidly-obese, and excluding all 'completely wrong' shit like drinking 2L of soda with every meal) is that if you eat just a tiny bit past your 'no longer hungry' threshold (which is much less than your 'full' threshold), you get a bit fatter and your stomach distends a bit more, moving your 'no longer hungry' and 'full' thresholds slightly higher. This snowballs pretty quickly. Combine with the progressive effect of gaining weight and you literally won't even notice until your belt starts being too tight, which is going to be 15-20kg too much.

Some people have a harder time telling when they're no longer hungry. There are multiple reasons for that. The way they eat (e.g. how fast) is one. The diet is another (low in protein and fats for example will give a more lasting impression of hunger).

Additionally, under a certain bf%, it's really hard to gain weight, whereas above a certain bf%, it's really hard to lose it. In the middle it's pretty easy to lose or gain. It just so happens that that range is what's considered healthy. The point is, this compounds with the facts above to make it even harder on people like that.

Again, the same principles usually don't apply to those who reach morbidly obese status.

Looking back I don't even know what the fuck I consumed in order to get fat as a 186cm male.
I was like 120kgs at my highest and I am currently 76kg.
I lost weight simply by calculating tdee and eating below it, and I lost it all so fast and today I feel like I eat so much shit and I still don't gain weight, how do people actually get so fat?
