I've always had a very hard time understanding why some people have such a varied reaction to the death of a celebrity compared to the thousands of beautiful, unique people that die every day who are just as unknown to them. Yeah, he was always too wired and manic for my tastes. A bit more subtlety would have helped. And it didn't help that he was drawn to maudlin "feel good" roles that shamelessly manipulated your emotions (or tried to).
