They had to destroy the Daytona in some fashion because it wasn't a real Ferrari, it was a Corvette with bodywork done to it by a company in Florida called Mcburnie. The company was being sued by Ferrari when they found out that a popular show was using a faux-rarri so they sent NBC a black Testarossa free, which they painted white (better for all the night scenes) and used for the rest of the series. Interesting stories about that car, it fooled most people, but if you look at the interior, its totally Chevy. Some of the clone Daytonas are still around, pic related, but I'd imagine most are long gone or destroyed.

I'm pretty sure it was part of their deal with NBC that if Ferarri sent a few Testarossas for free they would blow up the kit-car Daytona. Ferarri was going to sue I think.

Even the Testarossas were sometimes just Detomaso Panteras with body kits on them, because no one wanted to fuck up the real Testa during filming or chase scenes.
