Because to make a righteous movie for the Punisher, it would be a NC-17 fucking gorefest requiring a huge budget. And since The Punisher is a second tier hero to Marvel they just want to whore the character out for as much cash off dumb kids as they can.

Funny enough, the Punisher video game that came out with the shitty Thomas Jane movie I thought was bad ass. Way better than the movie.

I haven't seen the 90s one but the problem with the other two (though I enjoyed them as just action flicks) is that Tom Jane's Punisher is a PG version which only works in contrast with the rest of the Marvel Universe (Ennis' run where he constantly mocks superheroes) and War Zone is an adaptation of the violence and swearing in the MAX comics but the over the top elements make it too cartoony to be taken seriously.

Bernthal's version is the best by far but I hate the cop-out regarding him having some shrapnel in his brain which basically makes him crazy (instead of just being driven over the edge) and he basically gets revenge on those involved in his family's death kind of diminishing the neverending quest for vengeance upon all of crime.

I fuckin loved Warzone. Bit cheesy at times but the casting and action was great. Good cinematography too.

Think people only moaned about War Zone becauee it wasnt depressngly grimdark and didnt have any huge names in it for them to meme with.

They were all pretty fun movies. Don't know what you're expecting, there's not really that interesting of a character to do anything other then shoot-em-up action flicks.

A good Punisher? Make him a morally ambiguous anti-hero without regards to contemporary political correctness: a war vet with PTSD who might actually enjoy killing and uses his family's death as an excuse to continue the war closer to home. Filmmakers could raise questions regarding the philosophy of somebody like Frank Castle existing - of vigilantism. Or they could make the violence stylized and cool to make a point about audience enjoyment of such acts.
