Can we have a martial arts movies thread? Just watched this and found it pretty meh.
Kickboxer is the truest JCVD kino

My dad flipped the fuck out when he caught me watching this late at night when I was a kid. Great movie though.

Martial Arts kino
>>80736502
fuck that shit
>>80736545
why did he care?
>>80736121
Watched this a couple days ago
Northern Shaolin literally dindu nuffin
>>80736502
considering he's supposed to be the best martial artist on marvelverse and shit, that was quite shitty. Keanu reeves can fight better than that
>>80736121
It's a cult classic, you're supposed to love how cheesy and iconic it is..
>>80736121
MY BODY'S READY
Ong Bak 2 is the GOAT
I fucking love this opening scene so much.

MY HEART'S ON FIRE
>>80737126
I want this hair
There aren't too many older kung-fu films that have a great soundtrack, this one does. Skip to 3:30 for the opening demo -
Snake Deadly Act -

Also 49:00 through to 105:00 is a great training sequence with him and his master in a remote mountain.
All you fucks need to watch They call me phat dragon
>>80736121
Excellent film and watch Kickboxer, both are kino
>>80736443
>>80736121
True jcvd kino:
Hard target
Double team
Knock off
In hell
Replicant
Jcvd
Universal soldier regeneration
Universal soldier day of reckoning
>>80739197
you forgot Time Cop
>>80739197
>Universal soldier regeneration
>Universal soldier day of reckoning
These two are fucking miles better than I thought they would be, what a surprise to find these sequels
>>80739267
Haha nah
I did forget cyborg tho
>>80739275
in which one is JCVD completely coked out?
>>80739404
Dunno what you mean, but if I had to answer I'd say day of reckoning, because he is really just a side character, and that movie was like watching a lynch movie on speed.
>>80739197
>no lionheart
>>80736121
>He’d brought along “Michael,” a recent release, but twenty minutes after popping it into the VCR he got bored and switched to an old favorite, a Jean Claude Van Damme slugfest called “Bloodsport,” which he pronounced “an incredible, fantastic movie.
Reminder that if you don't like Bloodsport, you need to go back.
>>80736121
>Let me start you fellas off with this shit movie.
>>80736121
GOAT martial arts movie
>The Raid
The Netflix DareDevil show is also real good with the fighting
>>80736502
Does Seagal have a protege?
>>80739719
There is no one worthy of succeeding him.
>>80739483
Bloodsport, Lionheart, and kickboxer were probably his best.
I like Universal Soldier: The Return and Street Fighter because they are the ultimate "so bad it's good" movies. Plus I'm a big fan of Michael J White. I wish he was in good movies.
>>80739814
Speaking of which, did Exit Wounds feature the best performances of Seagal's, White's, DMX's, Tom Arnold's, and Anthony Anderson's respective careers? I know it's not a high bar, but I feel that there was something really special about bringing a bunch a terrible actors together and making a decent action movie.
>>80736502
>don't worry if you cant stretch or learn martial arts
>we got the editor from taken
Why could they just not cast someone that t least knows a bit of BJJ ffs, every hipster fag does the cuddle on floor with men "martial art"
>>80739197
>bloodsport
>kickboxer
>no retreat no surrender
>timecop
I saw Killzone 2 recently. That shit is fucking awesome.
>>80736121
What sort of martial art kino do you want? Modern, old? Classics are the best.
>Drunken master (78)
>five deadly venoms
>8 digram pole fighter
>The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
>Legendary Weapons of China
>Return of the Five Deadly Venoms
Really anything to do with the ten tigers of Canton
>So Chan
>Wong Kei-ying
>>Wong Fei-hung (has one of the longest running movie series)
Donnie yen has some good ones like
>Iron Monkey
>Ip Man
>The Lost Bladesmen
>>Also any Guan Yu movie is generally good.
>Shaolin Drunkard
>Tiger cage
Also most of Jet-li is good but check out
>Kids from Shaolin
>Once upon a time in china I & II
>Kung fu cult master
>Fong Sai-yuk I & II
And of course all his other more known ones.
There is also Jack Chan, Sammo hung, Gordon Liu (I listed some of his movies), the actors from the deadly venoms series did many movies together. Really there is a shit tonne of martial arts out there.Believe it or not I considered myself to have at one stage about 90% of it all, but my hard drive died and my dad didn't back it up as he didn't care for it. I kick myself every time I see these threads.
>>80737487
>There aren't too many older kung-fu films that have a great soundtrack
This is incorrect. Watch more Hong Kong Action Cinema. I'm not even going to provide any more examples, because you're just so egregiously wrong.
Will forever be my favorite martial arts movie
Legend of the Drunken Master
Fearless
Once upon a Time in China
For fun The Last Dragon
>>80740320
oh and Ashes of Time and Dragon Gate Inn movies.
>>80740406
>The Last Dragon
Oh shit! There was a BD was released
>>80740406
I love Drunken Master 2. Watched it many times when I was young.
That fight in iron fist with the drunkard, which was probably the only decent fight in the show, reminded me of it.
Any more drunken boxing kino out there?
>>80736121
I just finished watching JCVD, which isn't a martial arts movie, but holy fuck Jean Claude was awesome in it.
>>80739439
I have never seen any of these movies but I've heard Day of Reckoning is fucking nuts. Can I watch it without backstory?
>>80742463
Yeah you'll be good. All you need to know is reanimated vietnam vets were used as robot super soldiers, but JCVD got away and went pretty loco. First Universal soldier is a cheese fest, the second was unironically horrible, and the third one is action-fucking-kino, along with the fourth.
>>80742514
Nice, I'll probably just get hammered and watch it this weekend then. Thanks, anon.
Question to everybody:
Bloodsport -or- Kickboxer
My vote goes in forKickboxer
>>80740673
Nope, that's the only good one. I guess the original DM is okay if you like metronome-fu.
>>80742566
Kickboxer is the better movie by far. Bloodsport has better 80s kung-fu.The real answer is Lionheart.
