yes, the prison sequence was wayyyy too long and the audiobook only revealed how much longer Email could have made it ffs he has some sort of persecution complex wanting to send this projection of himself to jail forever might explain why he lets emmy cuck him so hard irl but I digress

by getting elliot out of the way for a bit he really developed the character and motivations of the other players in a way reminiscent of a novel and using the television episodic format kept the suspense going in a not-disingenuous way, unlike say House or LOST

if there's one thing I wish were different about s2 it would be more of a focus on backstory rather than constantly moving forward with respect to time, but I guess it's sort of the leitmotif of portraying the hyperrealistic world we find ourselves in

but that hyperrealism is the foundation upon which this story's intrigue is built and reality itself has jumped the shark lately so I really hope the original storyarc doesn't turn itself into a lame cartoon caricature. the Lynchian White Rose/Angela scene with the little girl, the koi fish, and the C64 really makes me worry that this show is going to break my heart eventually

in the end though, it's an enjoyable series with fantastically original filmography, aesthetic soundtracks, quality performances, and a rich, complex parallel reality I want to immerse myself in

So yes, I will be watching Season 3, tyvm

Season 2 was such a waste. I would have found it more interesting to reveal he was in prison in episode 1 but not reveal why. Would have added more tension and weight for me. The questioning on the blonde birdie by the girl was interesting. Reminded of Blade Runner, giving the replicants the test. I think they all might actually be robots.

it has some cool sequences and episodes, but sometimes can get a little cheap feeling or TV feeling. but i keep watching for the cool parts.

the more worrying news is that Esmail is going to continue to direct every single episode. Season 1 benefitted from the variety of directors

I didn't even watch season 2 because of how shit season 1 was.

And I still called the exact twists and directions of the show without watching a single episode of season 2.
