I expect the new Godzilla film to be better than the 2014 film, I liked Michael Dougherty films. Also I think they realized that they fucked up with not showing Godzilla more and more fight scenes rather than being off screen. Also no more boring stilted character like the soldier dude from the 2014 Godzilla film, boy did that movie took a dive when he took over.

I hope they take a hint from Shin Godzilla and have the movie primarily focus on scientists or whoever working to stop Godzilla while occasionally cutting to monsters fighting, and abandon the ideas they had in Kong and Godzilla 2014 where the main guy is some bland literally who who just runs around with a gun while the monsters do the interesting things
Kong had some nice shots and set pieces, but it definitely isn't something they can keep reusing, or at least not in that specific style

I'll tell you what the Monsterverse needs. More sci-fi. After the events of Godzilla, seeing how those monsters can also affect the rest of the world and not just Skull Island, I'm sure the government is interested in weapons that are effective against those things, without resorting to nukes because fallout and collateral damage and all that. Lasers, masers, plasma weapons, lightning weapons, EM, microwaves, railguns, etc.

You could make really cool and visually impressive action scenes with those elements.

Just imagine the scene. Introduction of the first non-Godzilla monster.
It's nighttime and raining, the full moon behind the clouds softly illuminating the scene. But there is more light. Several rows of huge military floodlights illuminate a vast rural landscape with hills and some woods here and there. In the distance a giant monster is approaching and we see the military rolling its energy weapons tanks and missile launchers to the front. In the command tent officers are gathered around a table with a plan on it. We learn that once the monster crosses a certain line they will open fire. Slowly the monster comes closer, everybody is tense. The order comes, open fire! We see barrage after barrage of missile fire, bright orange fires erupt on the monsters skin in sharp contrast to the blueish hue of the rainy night. They start firing their energy weapons. While the first impacts of the shells and missiles shook the monster a bit and slowed it down a bit, it didn't really care. The energy weapons have no pushback on the monster but where they hit we see its skin badly burned and charred open. It's effective! The monster screams in agony... or rage? It charges the military who keep firing everything they've got but the monster comes closer and closer, nothing seems to be able to slow it down. It crashes into the war machinery and everything gets destroyed. The hope after seeing the energy hits has been dashed into pieces and soldiers flee in fear and panic.

All the monster parts are great. It you want more from Kong you should readjust your expectations.

Crossover Kong and Planet of the Apes, also throw in Cloverfield too because why the fuck not, now you've got Apes fighting Clover's aliens and crab things and then Godzilla can come along later and fuck things up even more.

Skull Island was fun for what it was, an action/monster movie, the scenes w/ monsters being better than any humans save for JC Reilly.
