This. Lost in Translation is just a shitty character study, but neither Scar Jo or Murray were bad in it. In fact they gave great performances.

This movie seems like it's only good if you can relate to either main character, which not everybody can, and that might be your problem. Character studies can be an absolute bore if you don't feel like you are completely connected to a character.

I've never been alone in a foreign country, but I've been in situations that feel similar enough that the movie evoked a strong emotional response that admittedly not everyone will get from it.

Your mileage will vary with this, and probably with most Murray films that aren't comedy-centric

It's entry kino

but it's still one of my favorite films. The movie worked better as just a simple interaction between two people. It wasn't trying to convey a deeper meaning other than two people trying to deal with a shitty situation and coming to terms with who they were and moving on with their lives.

It played out like a short story. I wish all of her movies played out as beautifully as this did.
Bling Ring was a fucking mistake and Somewhere was when she lost it.
