Same opinion on theatrical cut, it was like it book missing random pages making it a jumbled mess..
The ultimate cut makes it watchable, making it go from a 4/10 to a 6.5/10. After reading analysis on it and understanding the symbolism, I bump it up to a 7.5/10 in my opinion.

Futrue wise, I think DC is missing the boat by assuming this movie was too dark instead of realizing the theatrical edition sucked because it edited too much. Ironically, why suicide squad sucked, it was trying to be too "XD" and ended up an even bigger mess with the editing problems.
>>
>>80684593
I don't change my opinions on a film just because two or three stupid shits pretend to like it. Peer pressure is a terrible way to review a movie.

>different posting styles
Fuck right off shill
>>
What's hilarious to be is how butthurt people are about this movie.

One year later and people are STILL talking shit about anything even remotely attached to it and can't move on.

Take this review about the Power Rangers movie for example
> If not for Elizabeth Banks, some dinosaur-shaped mechs, and the fact that everyone keeps saying the word “Zordon,” this would hardly seem like a Power Rangers movie at all; even the iconic, color-coded spandex suits have been turned into hard plastic nonsense that looks so dumb and lifeless that Zack Snyder might as well steal it for “Justice League.”
http://www.indiewire.com/2017/03/review-power-rangers-movie-bryan-cranston-elizabeth-banks-ludi-lin-rj-cyler-becky-g-naomi-scott-1201794992/

>>
>>80688165
It's exactly the type of tactics that were used for Dredd 2012. The only difference being that Warner didn't need their boys to beg people to buy the bluray/itunes copies when the home release came out.
>>
>>80684593

>Are you implying OPs and fucking thread replies are the same thing you shill?
When I already told you than one you found is clearly a bot (>>80686458) and what I found were shills (>>80686549) so no, I wasn't implying that, I was implying that even if the false flag bot, which was also exposed on twitter, was authentic, the real threat are disney shills. And to conclude I also told you that those threads made by the bot were false flags because the DC shills, if they aren't masochistic DC fans, don't make threads like that, which you would know if you weren't a shill yourself/a fucking newfag
>>
>>80688277

It wouldn't be a meme if it was just a bad movie. It's fun to meme about because it's a movie that actually tried to be higher art but is severely flawed. BvS has some pretty low lows but also some really high highs, better than anything Marvel has done. The reason /tv/ connects so greatly to BvS is because it's so far from the formulaic fodder that gets shoved down their throats with every MCU release.

film is so concerned with setting up the justice league and other sequels. As a reader of comics love the idea of cinematic universes, because alot of the fun of comics is seeing all your favourite heroes collab and work together but here it just doesn't feel earned.

I was hoping they would go the marvel route and give every JL member their own solo flick before the justice league. Now that its fucked I just don't even care for WW or JL.

Greatest superhero film of all time. Once you watch it, you'll realize that the MCU is a joke in comparison intended for kiddies and Big Bang Theory fans. This is why Marvel shills are on constant shitposting mode. They fear BvS.
>>
>>80702457
You could also realize that the MCU is a joke just by watching Daredevil 2015. Jeph Loeb >>>>>>>>> shit >>>>>>>> Kevin (the cuck) Feige.
>>
>>80702457

To be fair, most marvel comics are pretty damn campy and the films emulate the vibe of said comics quite well. And the winter soldier is a legitimately cool film. And as predicatable as they are, have some pretty creative action and for the most part avoid spectacle creep.

BvS was horribly paced, edited, relied to heavy on franchise building not to mention ugly. I'm not trying to say the avengers was a masterful work of art or anything, but that at least had a consistent tone, simple but well paced structure and was solid in every facet.

If the nolan trilogy showed us that you can take a comic book character and do your own creative spin to get new takes on them, then the marvel films are taking actual comic panels and putting them on screen complete with the campy silliness that made people read them in the first place. It's like people bag on marvel movies for being too much like silver age comics.

>>
>>80703745

Yeah, seeing batman fight normal goons in a warehouse arkham style was so damn new and creative...

then i look at the battle of new york, tohr vs iron man, the elevator fight, ant man vs yellowjacket, the final "fight" in doctor strange, airport battle, rescuing the air force one hostages etc.

Now don't get me wrong these films are definitely not the greatest, but i walked out of most of them pretty damn entertained. It's not even just marvel studios either; the damn fox films have better directed action these films.

>>80703780

I'm sorry, but do you not recall the doomsday fight? literally the worst CGI to come out of any of these superhero films, had terrible attempts at comedy and was just tonally all over the fucking place? It was the best action scene in a major blockbuster in the 2010s though. Of the scenes you mention the only one that's not objectively bad is the elevator fight on Winter Soldier (the only MCU movie with decent action) and even that is a rip off

>In this age of petty Marvels, most comic-book movies merely perpetrate fantasies of power, but Snyder, enacting his personal aesthetic, braves a film that examines those fantasies. He boldly challenges popular culture’s current decay. Man of Steel was a magnificent, hugely satisfying response to what’s often missing in pop culture, and Batman v Superman raises more ideas without (yet) resolving them. An attempt to invoke other superheroes from the DC Comics stable, starting with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot, accompanied by tribal drums that recall Snyder’s overawed feminist fantasia, Sucker Punch), ultimately goes unfulfilled. And Snyder, obliged to placate the Marvel hordes, lets a couple of fight scenes devolve into Avengers-trite turmoil.
>>
I remember having mixed feelings on it when I walked out of the theatre. I think what really hit me was seeing people in the theatre, clearly who have no knowledge of the DC universe being either confused or bored during the key scenes. When the flash showed up I noticed

Say what you want about the general public being tasteless sheeple but this film really did just expect people to buy into this DCEU shit without earning their trust with a decent film first.

The funny thing is that it's really just comic fans or film buffs debating the quality of these films. While the rest either don't care or were just confused about something not worth being confused over. People behind me just wanted the movie to end by the time doomsday showed up.

That is the worst excuse so far, also I can tell you now that it was the fans who were really burnt out from this film and how it handled these beloved characters. Normies actually didn't even care that much. If anything they just left confused and mixed. And they shouldn't.

Saying its for the fans should be a fucking responsibility, not an excuse
>>
>>80710517
There are fan who know the history, understand the themes at play, and appreciate what we got, and there are "fans" who watched a cartoon last year and think that makes them experts on these characters and on the whole vast history of comics.

Guess which group is triggered.
>>
>>80710595

.... yeah no, I've been reading comics damn near all my life and this movie was a middle finger to all of them.

it's like hack snyder saw a few cool panels from TDKR and TDoS and thought hey cool let's put that in the film. But actually forgot to write a good film.
>>
>>80710595

>There are fan who know the history, understand the themes at play

But you should be able to understand all that just by watching the damn movie, do you not understand that, If having tonnes of prior knowledge of the characters is required to not only understand but enjoy the film then it's essentially a BAD movie.
>>
>>80710670
That's something I don't understand, Snyder says TDKR was the base for his Batman... but it is a point in that comic that Batman simply can't be brought to kill somebody, even if he really wants to. Shit, he never meant to kill Superman, he only wanted to show him a lesson in humility and actually planned (pretend) to lose that fight. Yeah, it's like he didn't actully read the words, and just stared at the pictures and said "gee so cool I want that!".

>>80710786
Have you ever heard Snyder explaining any creative decision?

He literally makes decisions based on how "bad ass" something looks.

Just out of pure curiosity I listened the commentary track of Sucker Punch and is 2h of "we thought that looked cool!"

Snyder should be filming Transformers' sequels at best.

>Literally autism "logic", no sane person will think like that, the world make sense if you understand it only

Taking a metaphor literally and still complaining about the "autistism logic".

Projecting much?

What he meant by that line is that you have to change the world as you see fit.

See, this is why this movie is so great. It truly is too complicated for normietards.
>>
>>80710670
>>80710786

You guys aren't looking deeply enough into it. He absolutely did base elements of the story on TDKR, but the elements he chose to borrow from weren't what anyone was expecting.

What he chose was to take some of the imagery, sure, but what he *really* did, along with his screenwriters, was take the concept of a superhero story as an allegorical tale and run with it.

Once you see it, it can't be unseen. And it's a thing of beauty. It's so clear that I already have a good idea of what's going to go down with Superman's return.

You can't seriously be a lover of film and think BvS wasn't an overly long, pretentious "universe building" exercise to sell more tickets.

It tried to merge the dark knight returns with the death of superman( and ailing spectacularly) while also introducing wonder woman and the rest of the justice league via fucking e-mail scrolling, show us what is possibly the most unbarable performance by jesse eisenberg in his career and expect us to buy into all the shit because "it's for the fans bro!"

>>
>>80712959
Yea. They also through a Injustice teaser in there for no reason and decided it was a good idea to make Superman in his prime and Batman old as shit. "Killing" Superman was also stupid because he was in only one movie prior to BvS and the audience had virtually no attachment to the character or even believed for a second he wouldn't come back immediately. Also having Batman fight Superman was fucking stupid because they barely had any relationship to one another. At least in Dark Knight Returns they had a long history so the fight had more impact. The fight between the two is already wasted on BvS and ruins any chance of a more meaningful fight between the two at any other time.

Also, didn't get? there was nothing to fucking get. Nothing fucking HAPPENS in this damn film. Killing him off was stupid in this context because it literally implies his revival at the end so what's the actual fucking point. Oh because the justice league needs to sell tickets. So nothing happened in this film, great. Tell me the allegorical reasoning behind the forced universe building practices?
>>
The biggest problem with the movie is that it was overwrought, Just too much stuff in it.

People love the Marvel movies because they're simple, straightforward and entertaining.

BvS just had too much and dealt with themes too complex. The fact that Batman and Lex are lying and excusing their actions throughout the movie confuse a lot of people because they're used to take what characters say at face value.

It's still capeshit, but at least they tried to be different than Disney.

When you are going to feature said character in MANY more films afterwards then yes it is bad. If you already know there's going to be sequels, why not wait to "kill" him when it would actually have an impact on the audience? The whole "he's dead but not really" was just wasted potential.

How the fuck is it that MoS had better action and screenplay than this one? you have fucking batman and superman in the same movie, how do you churn out something so dull and low energy with these two characters who share decades of comic history?

That's psychopathic at best. Nothing justify this way of thinking. Listen, even if you wan't to change the world, first you have to understand it, this is pure logic. Over the course of several viewings, I've come to understand a lot of things about MoS and BvS that weren't obvious on first glance.

Starting with MoS, is it an origin/birth story? Yes. Is it a science fiction story? Again, yes, but the truth goes beyond even that. It is a story that embraces some of the very finest notions present in comics and sci-fi/fantasy tales, the spirit at the heart of these stories - the cautionary tale and the glimpse at a better world.

MoS is a cautionary tale about the dangers of the sacred and the better world we'd have if we all started facing down the monsters born of our sacred cows.

BvS is a cautionary tale concerning the dangers of xenophobia, obsession, and vengeance and a glimpse of the better world where we start finding common ground with the "alien."

It's almost impossible to analyze them separately because the themes are so intertwined, but I'll do my best to address them chronologically.
>>
BvS is like one of those 3D magic eye puzzles where you have to look at it the right way to see the hidden picture. Some people will get it and some people won't but in the end whether you got it or not the picture itself isn't good enough to be hung in a museum......or even stuck to your fridge.
>>
BvS is pretty much about a Zuckerberg motherfucker trying to assassinate the reputation of a hero through politics and the media, and pretty much everybody buying his bullshit.

There's a good reason why it was called the Trump of capemovies by the critics.
>>
>>80713655

I bet it took you a movie about superman and some critics "deeply" analysing those themes for you to understand this. I will accept the theme of corruption and war if for once the super heroes would be used to fight those things

Did you really fail to see Batman getting duped by the things the media said about Superman all because those fake news justified his misguided hate for a person he didn't even knew? Or how Lex used everyone and everything to try and tarnish the reputation of Superman? How the media didn't cared about actual facts, like Batman being an ass in Gotham, only because that wasn't as clickbait-y as the Superman supposed fuck-ups? How even Superman was starting to doubt his mission because of all the things people said about him?

Did you miss all that?

MoS gives a new addition to Superman lore - the Kryptonian Codex. It is the heart of their genetics program, their population control. Keen observers will note that it appears to be a skull fragment from a more primitive ancestor of modern Kryptonians. This is good science. It's stepping back to a point in their development to explore their full genetic potential before any interesting genes got bottlenecked out, but it's not only that. It's an early clue to some themes that run throughout these two films - it's a symbol of "sacred science" that calls to mind a key point in mankind's own past history, the point where "evolution won."

For all intents and purposes, that could have been "Lucy's" skull.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_(Australopithecus)

Take note of the assembled fragments halfway down the article. Now complete that jigsaw with the Codex. Krypton allowed science to first trump religion, and then they made it sacred in its own right.
>>
>>80714370

The only problem the movie has in relation to that is that they used Doomsday when Bizarro would've been a better fit.
>>
>>80714223
Who said i failed to see it but you ? All i'm saying is that corruption and manipulation are not complex story nor new things. I said that for once i would like to see a hero take down corrupt person in place of power and change the world they live in, take the fantasy and really ground it in reality if you want to tackle this subject, don't simply show what everybody know and make them fight a big monster at the end, that is easy. Doing something complex would be to destroy the image of superman because he would try to change the world for real, stopping war, battling crime, destroying corruption. Take a power bigger than men and exploit it to fight the worse weakness of humanity not a fucking alien monster.
>>
>>80714370
No, lex represent corruption and manipulation, you want to fight that ? you stop the people responsible for it. Making superman fight a big bad monster and only imprisoning lex is easy. Lex is not alone, he is a corporation, he is surrounded by men of power who approve of is actions, share the same interest as him, lust of power. Not attacking that mean lex won't be arrested for long, a failure in the system will let him free like all the time he has been in prison. Don't try to think i'm retarded when i'm willing to give effort to talk about this subject. The monster is easy to understand, the responsiblity of human in the state of the world is a lot complex theme that bvs failed to tell.

(Pic related)

"Codex" is another early clue to where this story is headed. A codex is many things, but one thing it is not is a skull fragment. Most frequently, it is a word associated with ancient texts, often of a religious nature.

When we first meet Jor-El and Zod, it is the Codex very much on both their minds. Zod and Jor have very different ideas about what should become of their "book." Zod wants to take it and "edit out" what he calls the "degenerate bloodlines," an interesting choice of words, because that word, "degenerate," has always carried some moral connotations. Later, when Zod is made aware of Kal-El and the circumstances of his birth, Zod labels Jor and Lara as heretics.

Kryptonians have enshrined their science. They have made it sacred. In a very real way, the genetics program is Zod's religion.

Ok lets talk about media corruption. When is it resolved ? After the fight with the big troll ? Are the people who reject superman influenced by the media too ? What do they think about the explosion in the capitol ? How can they blame superman for his fight against zod, implying they are both responsible for the damage, seeing his relation with the capitol but they mourn superman in respect when he die in battle ? Is the media telling them that ? Why does the media change its stance in the end ? Because he fought a big bad guy ? Cause only lex is manipulating the strings ? The death of the alien who destroyed metropolis and is in relation with two terrorist acts is more clickbaity than the presence of another person with superpower (wonder woman) that no one had seen before and who disapear just after the fact ? Why doesn't the media talk about batman, is bruce manipulating the media too ? that is surely more complex than that and to easily explained
>>
>>80714979
It's resolved in the instant that Bruce looks at the spear in disgust and tosses it away.
>>
>>80714920
Jor, on the other hand, has a different future in mind for Krypton. He sees Kryptonian society as a failure and wishes only for his child to carry its memory, its culture, and its potential forward as a legacy, and he wishes its future to be a choice left solely in the hands if his son.

With that in mind, he infuses the "book" into the cells of his don's body and sends him earthward. There are obvious Biblical echoes here("the Word made flesh," etc.), but I believe there's something more subtle afoot.

Clark lives the bulk of his life unaware that he's even carrying it. It's just part of who he is, in much the same way that we, children of various faiths and cultures, carry our own "books" in our bones, largely unconscious of how they are simply a part of who we are, not a religion, at least not always, but very definitely a part of our respective cultures.
