Can you recommend me movies like Akira? I'm not a big fan

Akira is shit though. The animation was good, the soundtrack was cool, but the story and flow is a disenfranchised mess that butchers the manga. Normalslimes just see TRIPPY ANIME BULLSHIT and don't care.

Well, there's the black/white one (as every manga is) and there's the English-language version by the Marvel Comics imprint Epic Comics coloured version by Oliff. The Manga goes way beyond the ending of the movie. Kaneda disappears for several issues and other characters are put in the spotlight. I can tell you to search for download links on desuarchive, but a computer screen doesn't do it justice, so buy it.

Even a basic understanding of Japanese history and culture will let you "get" Akira not trying to sound like a hardcore weeb, its really not hard to make the connections if you do a little research into the culture and "spirit" of 80s Japan

I hate that people always recommend GiTS, it's not similar at all.
There's really nothing like Akira out there.

Bonnie and Clyde (1967) was an inspiration for Katsuhiro Otomo when he wrote Akira.
