fuuuck, that part 1 twist. but im starting to think unfavorably about this film. it sorta just seems like korean gone girl and shes asian amy dunn. the plot twist wouldve been much more impressive to me if i hadnt read and seen gone girl before.

That was the point imho. For the characters in the film, they're a means of freeing themselves from the oppression by the male characters. But for the viewer, they remain pornography, as you're a person from the outside looking in. You don't share their love and freedom, it's impossible. So even if the ending is good for the characters, you as a viewer can't achieve catharsis because you remain trapped.

To me it was made clear by how at the end the Count and the uncle make an increasingly disturbing fantasy about an intercourse with Hideko, which is juxtaposed with the scene of the Hideko and Sook-He making love to each other.

i like this interpretation a lot and i had something similar, i thought it related to the bells and how past trauma doesnt have a hold on her any more.

i feel if it was ever released in NA or yurop, you'd get people coming out of the woodwork to say it was obscene and unnecessary though.

I really wish I could realize stuff like this but it just never hits me when I watch them. I like good movies but I always miss those important aspects. God dammit.
