Yea i used to say this all the time and when I was a young I thought this was the Wolverine movie i wanted but Logan was miles better than a war movie with super hero twist could ever be.

It's just kind of tasteless really and in practice it doesn't matter at all because the Wolverine that matters doesn't even remember that stuff. There's pretty much two distinctly different Wolverines.

Pre Xavier Wolverine and Post Xavier Wolverine. The Last Stand even hints at the possibility Professor X fucked with his brain to make him a good person and I like that moral greyness.

Before the Adamantium he was an invincible bone claw killer who killed and killed and killed because he was a freak and a pariah who couldn't have a normal life.

That clip got my imagination going as a teenager but now it just seems like a cringey SPR rip off. A few flashes of Hollywoods favourite war movies rather than actually Wolverine at war and at the end of the day it's just going to be a Highlander movie more than anything where are the stakes when the character can't die and history shows us he's on the winning side. They might be ballsy and make him a Confederate i guess

Wolverine fought with Captain America in WW2 and later and honestly I would like to see a that since I'm one of the few who really enjoys The First Avenger but reading it in the comics is just as good if not better.

The Xbox game was really good tho I'd play the shit out of a Wolverine fights through all your favourite wars vidya game but I wouldn't hanker for a movie.

If you read the making of this movie, you'd know the director Gavin Hood wanted to make something closer to this in tone but Tom Rothman (the studio head) kept going behind his back and fucking with the script and repainting his sets when he wasn't around.

tl;dr It's not really the director's fault (he's made good stuff like Tsotsi), and evidence exists of a significantly different plot especially if you played the video game.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is the longest running consistent portrayal of a character in film history, but it still feels like we didn't get enough of it. 2/3 solo Wolverine movies were pretty shitty and this just gave us a glimpse of greatness in the opening scenes. In X-Men 1 and 2 it was clear Singer just worked under the premise the claws were added. Stryker directly says he gave him claws and you can see that the metal claws aren't supposed to be there in that they just stab out through his flesh every single time and then the stab wounds heal up.

Then it was retconned with Origins.

Then it became a "who gives a fuck" sort of thing.

I like bone claws turned to metal since it makes more "sense" that he had claws and now they're just metal than he had some sort of claw control system installed and stored somewhere in his arms and they just essentially stab the fuck out of his hands from inside.
