There is no indication that the Illuvatar guards or forbids the Void. The Valar in their unity have never been defeated but they have, almost comically easily, evaded and outmaneuvered. Getting to Melkor would at worst be direct defiance of only Mandos, and a need to scurry away from the others.
This also brings up to me the pointlessness of debating possibilities in Arda because if it didn't happen, it wasn't in the Music, and now I'm sad.

Was it really autism though? Perhaps normal thought processes are different from human ones in his class of beings. It always makes me laugh when people project their way of thinking and their own motivations onto beings which are supposed to be superior (including in this thread).
