People are fucking stupid. They'll support it because they are nostalgic and too mentally lazy to find something new to watch, they'll take reruns instead. The Star Wars prequels taught Hollywood an important lesson: movies don't have to actually be good to make money. You can crank out garbage with a recognizable name aimed at the proper demographics and rake in millions.
