I don't know man...I'm starting to get all panicky about watching this. I have this feeling this is some sort of inside joke and it's the worst show ever created. It's like the Sci-Fi version of installing Gentoo or Boku no Pico.

The 1st 2 Seasons of Andromeda were great, then the Producers fired their writing staff and wanted to take the show in a "different direction" and it fell to shit.

Babylon 5 had a rough 1st Season then turned fookin great. The special effects are dated, but if you can live with that and care more about story, watch it.
>>
>>80463937
that clip is from a spinoff show legend of the rangers, which is so objectively awful B5 fans would rather pretend it doesn't exist.

the main show is solid.
>>
>>80463555
If you can get past the ultra low budget and primitive special effects, B5 is just about the most compelling Sci Fi drama ever seen on TV. If they had a better budget it would easily have toppled DS9.

This is also a good recommendation. It's like a cross between BSG and Starship Troopers. CGI is a bit dated though.

About 5 years after B5 went off the air, The Scifi Channel bought the rights from TNT and tried to make an even lower budget spinoff. It failed horribly and the first episode is all the survives. We like to pretend it never happened. Those were dark times for Scifi.

Guys

The increase in your engagement with B5 will increase exponentially after S1

I, too, watched season 1 and found it to be extremely dull, cheap and uninteresting (no worse than s1 of any Trek, though). I too disbelieved the stories of how good it gets, but by the middle of S2 I was so involved I was actually shouting at the TV.

Believe the hype. It IS the best science fiction TV show ever made. Just persevere...

B5 story is like a novel whereas Moon, 2001, Ex Machina are short stories: not a valid comparison

As for Star Trek TOS and TNG, again, they're more like a collection of short stories, whereas B5 is a single massive story (spanning almost the entire history of the human race) and as a result there are individual episodes of B5 that have more tension and emotional weight than any single ep of a Star Trek.

As for BSG we all know it turned from gold into shit and you can't watch early seasons of BSG without thinking about the terrible ending.

S1 and S5 suck but are integral to the larger plotlines. The In The Beginning movie is also integral but you should watch it after season 2 or 3 so you have a better appreciation for whats going on. The insectoids should have never been filmed. B5 made many smart compromises to work with the limited budget they had but the insectoids were high school drama club tier.

Much of the cgi now looks dated, especially the computer displays but that's not too distracting. The mid 90s textured paint fad found its way into some of the set design but since fashion is circular, who's to say that wouldn't be back in favor when the station was built.

Firefly died because they put it on Friday night at 8PM. That's where you send shit to die. In addition the studio aired shit out of order. The studio went out of its way to tank the show for whatever reason.

Farscape had a 4 season run, nothing wrong with that.

The SG series had a super loyal fanbase, but like Trek its most episodes in bottles with no real arc to speak of.

B5 was great for it's arcs, character arcs and story arcs. They were planned out, things that happen at the end of the run are foreshadowed in S1 and S2. It's a complete, comprehensive story that knows what it's doing. However, it doesn't lend itself to mindless viewing like TNG or SG1. You need to pay attention to get the most out of B5.

The second episode of Babylon 5 is a firewall.
>>
>DS9 fans are now falseflagging and shitposting about B5 no stop

we already have to deal with their "le poor man's DS9" meme in every B5 thread but now they are getting even more obnoxious
>>
>>80480027
>DS9 fans
Oh nooooo... how dare somebody like BOTH green AND purple at the same time???
>>
>>80480091
but DS9 fags don't like B5
I mean they don't even have the mental capacity to appreciate the best that the star trek franchise has to offer so how could they ever appreciate something far superior and more cerebral?
>>
>>80480150
>but DS9 fags
I'm one.
>don't like B5
And I do like B5.

What now?
>>
>>80480213

Starfuries make so much damn sense as space fighters.

>>80463817
>not counting LEXX
First season of Lexx is GOAT though.
>>
>another thread ruined by DS9 manchildren
What's the problem? there wasn't any other Star Trek thread to ruin?
>>
>>80480436
Thread was great until you showed up.
>>
>>80480773
no it wasn't
>>
>>80463817
the Lexx was a comedy without a laugh track.

"It was a distress signal! They always lead to trouble, so I ignored it!" - 790

what are you afraid of? that if you watch it, you'll somehow be marked with the number of the beast and all the patrician posters in /tv/ will somehow be able to see it and they'll laugh at you?

are you afraid you might spend two weeks of your life watching this and then regret it? "god damn, i could have been playing mario kart all that time! what a fool i've been!"
