It's more like people who are wired differently as to have something more akin to a positive experience when they touch a hot stove. We know that thrill seekers are far more likely to have a certain set of alleles that seem to correspond with higher dopamine responses after risky behavior. They return for the pleasure of a dopamine response like a scholar would take pleasure in reading a book. Bashing your face on concrete and walking away feeling a pleasurable thrill, and returning for more, takes a different kind of wiring, and you have to bash your face to be a good skater.
