Just got back from the theater, was a decent flick, John C Reilly is actually the emotional core of the movie and besides the cringe lines they use for the trailer to get the capeshit crowd to show interest, he actually shows a lot of heart in his performance. Everybody else is kind of a robot especially Larson and Hiddleston.

Kong is great and so are his fight scenes. Jackson is uninteresting as a villain and like Cranston in Godzilla Goodman is wasted because he is killed off way too soon in an anti climatic way.

Actually, it's far more clinical, the people that own the licensing rights simply want to keep them so a new product using said right must be made to do that every now and again.

I liked this movie, it had some surprising and pretty shocking deaths. I liked Samuel L Jacksons character, and John C Reilly stole the show. His character was surprisingly good. I would give it a 7.5/10.

They were running away from the Skullcrawler but they hesitate when that one soldier stays to sacrifice himself, that's not when he turns around though, they try to stop him but ultimately have to keep running and the Skullcrawler is now busy analyzing the bait. After taking the soldier out, as Loki and co. are running, the Skullcrawler comes back and THEN he turns around. Yeah, Hiddleston's character was pretty much nonexistent despite the fact that he was ostensibly the "main" character. Just saw it too. It was pretty alright, nothing special. Biggest problem for me is that is was trying to be super serious, and then be funny with Reilly, and it just going back and forth. I thought I was watching a comedy or something.

They were really pushing the 'Nam aesthetic too much. Also, all sorts of the military components of the movie made me cringe. They're a bunch of chopper pilots, then suddenly they're wearing infantry grunt GI flakvests + helmets, some dude has a flamethrower (remember, chopper pilots), the kid has an M16A2+M203 with heatshield that wasn't even in service at the time, suddenly in the monster fight they have a M2 fiddycal set up (these are heavy as shit, do not lug around in jungles), AK guy has a bloop gun that never gets used, choppers all flying around shooting and crashing into each other, etc.

You're right that just about everyone other than Reilly and Jackson being beep boop robots. However, I can't really take Jackson serious as a military figure, especially when he busts out the sassy black attitude. Pretty stiff acting all round.

Monster designs were 10/10, should have been less about faggots running around the jungle and more about Kong curb-stomping big fucking animals.
