I watched one of his years ago and didn't care for it. Mission to Mars is better then the 5/10 rating it gets most of the time. it was a solid 6.5/10 with some great scenes and only gets dragged down by a hollywood ending.

What would you prefer? I suggest you watch his 80s stuff, it's a lot more grounded, and he has a lot of psychological elements in his films. Probably one of my favorite directors since he always has some creative visuals. His popular stuff like Scarface, Mission Impossible, and Untouchables are good, but he shines in his other work, although it's of a notably different genre. He's always great with sexual scenes too.

Different tastes I guess, I don't mind a feel good ending, and yes, he has made some great films, but they sadly over shadow much of his other work. Once you get to watching his filmography you can pick up his style, and techniques he likes to repeat, but it doesn't get stale since he makes some innovative shots and usually has good characters/dialogue, but it depends on if you like him or not, his stuff might be a little to sexual or "exploitative". Check out Obsession or pic related, both good. I can't shill him enough.
