Conky reporting in for new Doctor.
>>
Do you guys think we might actually see what the Mondas Cybermen look like without the cloth covering their face in series 10?
>>
This is how the finale will pan out

Big bad brings the Cybermen together, the Doctor makes le epic speech and gets the Mondas Cybermen to kill the Iron Men Cybermen because they are still the most human. Le Mondas Cybermen become heroes.

All Cybermen seem to be defeated but suddenly an Iron man cyberman is still alive and shoots Missy causing her to regenerate.

you know how Moffat's mind works 'bring something back and try to innovate' and then potentially fail terribly like with the Ice Warrior outside the suit in Cold War.

So it's likely he will remove the cloth face for at least a scene.

There's some weird about this series.

For starters 5-8 are apparently linked.
>>
>>80204560
Neither of them want to actually kill each other thats the point. So if the Doctor truly is in a situation where there's no escape, you can bet your life the Master will try and save him.

Like when the Master pushed the 4th Doctor off the tower, he knew the Doctor would regenerate that's why he smiled. It's all dangerous game they're playing. But if shit gets proper serious the Master will be there to help, just like he helped 6 will the Valeyard.

They is bestos

That's how it's looking
Eps 1-4 are standalone
Eps 5-8 have their own arch
Eps 9 and 10 are Standalone
Eps 11 and 12 connected

But obviously there's most likely going to be a big bad and an overall arc that get's established in A Star In Her Eye.

The original plan for the Master's story arc:

After a year away, he returns. But his big explodey plan is going to fail, and possibly permakill the Doctor. He can't handle that idea, so he flips out and runs in to make sure the Doctor can regenerate, and he gets permakilled.

And then Delgado died in Turkey, so they replaced the story with some fucking spiders.

Cartmel talked about doing the original ending with Ainley in S28, but of course the show got canceled.

Tennant wanted RTD to do the original ending with Simm, but RTD disagreed.

Capaldi probably wants Moff to do the original ending with Missy, and Moff is afeared of the Capaldiman.

>>80204899
I always thought Brother idea made a lot of sense.
I think people would hate it now though. It's too late. People were getting mad when Missy had that throwaway comment of having a daughter on Gallifrey.
>>
>>80205040
It's not made up, eps 6* to 8 are about the Truth Monks and Memory police and Missy is in those episodes. You can learn all that by looking at the filming blocks, and leaked set pics.
>>
>>80205099
What's wrong with the Master having a kid? that's actually pretty cool. And nah I like them just being best friends the brother thing is way too cliche even for a villain like the Master.
>>
>>80204182
It was gloves in 10th planet.
>>
>>80205175
I don't personally care. But I know a lot of people were annoyed by that on here. Imagine if they did the brother thing? People would go ballistic.
>>
Destiny of the Doctors and some 8 Doctor stuff + Churchill are on HumbleBundle now
>>
>>80205099
RTD did the joke where Martha asks if they're brothers and the Doctor says she's been watching too many bad soap operas, and fandom loved that.

It's all because the series bible for the TV movie wanted to make them half-brothers (same dad, but a Gallifreyan mum instead of Penelope Gate so he's not half-human). Fandom suddenly decided that that them being related was the dumbest idea in history, after nobody really having a problem with it before. So instead, they were besties as little kids, because that's totally different.

Fandom is silly.
>>
>>80205261
A friendship among equals is a much more meaningful relationship than them just happening to have the same mother.

Biology is silly.
>>
>>80205175
>What's wrong with the Master having a kid? that's actually pretty cool
It reminded me of Iris Wildthyme's story about her daughter that was a parody of the Doctor's story from Cold Fusion, which was pretty cool.
>>
I'd like to see an episode from the Masters perspective.
>>
>>80205334
Same father, not mother. Remember, the Universal/Fox Doctor is half-human on his mother's side.

More importantly, it's not just happening to have the same father; they were raised together, in the same house, with their dad and the Doctor's mum as their parents. That's a pretty meaningful relationship.

Of course it's also an explanation for why the Master was evil—grew up with his stepmom who never loved him as much as her own kid, resents his non-bastard half-brother, blah blah.
>>
>>80205470
>I'd like to see an episode from the Masters perspective.
I'm not sure that would work as well with an OTT crazy Master like Missy (or Simm, or Roberts).

But for the next Master, that could be pretty cool.

Especially if they try to do a thing like Big Finish has done with the Master (and twice with Davros) where he tries to resist being evil but he can't hold back his true nature. Doing that story from his POV could be pretty cool.
>>
>>80205548
I much prefer the idea of them finding and befriending each other in their youth (flashback when?). It's more touching and less contrived.
>>
Depressed as fuck. Who else?
>>
>>80205636
I'm just saying I wouldn't hate the brother idea, and fandom's reason for hating it was silly. It wouldn't be my first choice.

I like the VNA idea that they're bound together by a dark childhood secret that they can never share with anyone else. Making it be a murder that the Doctor committed to save the Master and then let him think he'd committed it and sold him out to Death to be her Champion, that part is probably not right for TV, just the idea that there's something unspecified that they've been keeping between themselves since they were 5.

Because fascism isn't also about thinking as a collective.

Kit Pedler's entire point behind the Cybermen was that there's no real difference between communism and capitalism if they're both obsessed with progress and efficiency.

No it didn't. The first Women's Day was over 100 years ago, starting as a protest against the poor treatment of seamstresses and other female professions - the Russian Revolution started months later in October, and adopted the gesture from them, not the other way around.

Yes, it doesn't matter what your intent is when making a gesture, or how other reasonable people will interpret it; all gestures have been trademarked and their meanings can never change. Colin did tweet an awful lot about how badly Cameron and Rose were handling the campaign and how they deserved to lose if this is the way they're going to do things, but I don't think he actually wanted them to lose.

He's not. If the press wants to talk to an authority about Doctor Who, the first person they turn to is Moffat. Then Capaldi. Then Tennant, Gatiss, RTD… Terry is about 20th on the list now. Whereas in the early wilderness era, he was at worst tied with JNT, so anything he said could be taken to mean more about Doctor Who than he intended.

Seriously stop picking on Gareth just because he has conservative views. His political views do not detract from the fact that he is actually a good writer and he writes fun and innovation episode's. He is actually a pretty nice guy in person to everyone. Also the situation with Peter Capaldi is false, Capaldi was the one who got annoyed over a stupid joke, it wasn't Gareth's fault. So yeah.

I still think most of his books, most of his SJA episodes, and half his DW episodes are fun. But why can't I think that, and enjoy his work, and still make fun of him? You think he's too thin-skinned to handle it?

This is a distinct possibility and maybe the reason for the above. After watching Garebear's "The Librarians" episode I really wonder how much of his material was rewritten by moffat and RTD. It was pretty bad by even The Librarian's standards.

And I don't mean 7. In his 4 MAs, the Doctor is always the best character; in his 7 NAs, the Doctor is the least interesting character. Should I check that one out? Honestly, I haven't read enough of the NSAs to compare them. I read three of the ones that someone else suggested, and it was impressive that they managed to pull off a decent book despite the mandate to write for 10-year-olds and not have any lasting effects on anything, but, except maybe for The Eyeless, it was still frustrating that they could have been so much better with a little more freedom.
>>
>>80210343
what quote was that?
>>
>>80210811
>Some things you see are so bad, you think you shouldn’t write for a week in case you’re contaminated. In case it’s got into your head. The sheer rubbishness of the dialogue and awfulness of the story construction. You have to detox. But you read a Russell [T Davies] script and suddenly everything makes sense in an immaculate clean way. So they’re huge influences and pick-me-ups. I read Cucumber years ago for the simple reason that I was stuck on Doctor Who, really tired and having a miserable time rewriting someone’s script. And all I was doing covertly was saying, “Could you send me some good writing I haven’t read so I can remember what it’s like?” It doesn’t mean you then write like that but you go, “Yes! That’s exciting.”

I know Gaiman lost the script and it was a troublesome time all round for Nightmare in Silver, but you only have to compare that script to Doctor's Wife. TDW is a marked improvement, and it's very much been polished up by SteMo

Let's be fair, RTD was openly critical of a lot of writers, hence he did page one rewrites on so fucking many. Only he chooses to tell an anecdote about Roberts cos he knows he won't care, cos they're friends, and RTD doesn't wanna call out a bunch of hack writers that he had to rewrite cos they were shit
>>
>>80210885
Moffat was pretty busy and overworked that year too. He probably didn't have time to rewrite it much and trusted Gaiman to deliver something decent....
>>
>>80210799
It's one of the only other good ones, yeah - basically written as an audition for the TV series at the time iirc

>'Why d’you hang around us so much, then?’ The Doctor looked into her eyes, serious. ‘You can be brilliant, terrible, generous, cruel. But you’re never boring.’
>>
>>80210965
2011 does seem to be the year Moffat nearly just died of exhaustion. Sherlock deadlines plus a mad rush to finish his Series 6 scripts in seemingly no time at all (explains why Wedding is so weak and why Widow/Wardrobe was so damn shit)
>>
I know Gaiman said he was annoyed that he had to write 10 drafts of The Doctor's Wife, and told Moffat that much.
>>
>>80211014
>"I didn’t enjoy my third year as much. It was a bit miserable," a very candid Moff revealed. "The workload was just insane. I wasn’t coping as well. No-one else’s fault, all mine. The 50th was looming, and I didn’t know if we could make it work. It was a tough, tough time. My darkest hour on Who was that."
>>
>>80211086
It's quite something that the 50th turned out as well as it did. Hurt cast two weeks prior to the start of production, for one thing.
>>
reminder the guy who wrote the impossible planet/satan pit originally has slitheen in his episode but RTD cut them and made the Ood instead
>>
>>80210948
It was also more than a little unfair for RTD to dump the de facto lead writer job on Gareth and Phil Ford at the last second, with the scripts already late (RTD was originally going to write 6 episodes, not write 2 and leave them half done for Gareth to finish), without actually giving them the title or credit, and then demand they come up with great work in no time.
>>
>>80211146
They were Slitheen because RTD knew they had the costumes, IIRC. Can't remember why he changed them in the end - it's in the book. Might be because he felt they'd be a bit too silly in a story with the Devil.
>>
>>80211146
RTD made the Ood, but he wanted the Tritovores to be his iconic monster?
>>
>>80211164
I don't think many SJA scripts are outright bad, which is quite a miracle with the turnaround time and RTD trying to juggle three shows at once.
>>
Speaking of SJA and Gareth, what happened to Clayton Hickman? He left DWM to become a full-time writer, cowrote some SJA episodes and BF audios with Gareth and did the Brilliant Books and stuff, but he seems to have vanished about 5 years ago.
>>

>>
>>80211271
I agree. And I'm willing to bet Gareth and Phil Ford deserve almost all of the credit for that, even if RTD never gave them the job title. Gareth gets SJ almost as well as he gets 4 and Romana, and Phil knows how to write RTD style without going RTD-finale-OTT.
>>
>>80211290
He's regularly active on Twitter, with all sorts of interesting facts and newly discovered info on classic Doctor Who.

But in terms of professional work, he does seem to be off the radar. Not sure what he does these days.
>>
>>80211343
At one time, I was willing Roberts and Ford to be the next showrunner (co-runners) because they held up SJA so damn well. Shame things have turned out the way they have, with Roberts just turning into a maniac and Ford slipping off the radar.

I suspect this whole writing/rewriting/credit thing is why Moffat started taking co-credits during Series 8. RTD says in his book he wishes he'd put his name on several scripts too. And I bet Ford and Roberts, in hindsight, wish they'd fought harder for co-writing credits on various SJA stories.

true. it could have been so much worse. he could have easily just got everyone that's willing to appear and write a big fanwank fest light at the end but instead he tried to have a decent story then fanwank stuff. it's not perfect, there could have been more classic who stuff but it's pretty good and actually rewatchable unlike a lot of other anniversary stuff.
>>
>>80211347
Thanks. Although I just found some stuff after asking. It sounds like Hickman has become the silent third partner in Team RTD/Ford. He did a lot of design work for Wizards & Aliens, and wrote a few episodes, and last year Ford and Hickman were working on a pitch for a new show that RTD will be involved with "in some capacity".

Hope they get somewhere, and it's better than W&A.

They already got plenty.

S1: 5/6 written or cowritten by one of them
S2: 5/6
S3: 4/6
S4: 3/6
S5: 3/3

And all of the rest were written by Clayton Hickman, Joseph Lidster, Rupert Laight, or RTD.

I'll bet in hindsight that they'd been able to commission some outsiders to write for them instead of having to do all the work themselves…

And apologizing because something he retweeted was also retweeted by UKIP. And insulting Rudd, Corbyn, Cameron, and Rose for doing such a terrible job convincing people to vote Remain. Meanwhile, I see multiple people asking him whether he's for or against Brexit, and he never answers once.

The closest I can see to him endorsing Leave is retweeting some of the #LabourLeave stuff (which would hardly make him a right-winger, given that it's all about Leave being the true leftist position…), but he doesn't comment on any of it.

It really doesn't feel like Torchwood, and it's not nearly as good as CoE, so people were disappointed.

And as far as the most vocal parts of fandom are concerned, there is no middle ground. It certainly wasn't GOAT, so it must be absolute shit, right?

But really, it's not that bad. If you've watched everything else, go ahead and watch it.

Missy is in Extremis and Finale, this should be good. Wonder wtf her clever idea was (her escape plan)? because the Daleks only seem to be in a cameo for eps 1.

Midnight. A single, infinitely clever man screaming his throat out to get other people whom he views as his inferiors to see things from his perspective, which he deems to be the equivocally correct one.

It's a tossup between The Shakespeare Code, The Unicorn and the Wasp, Planet of the Dead, The Lodger, Closing Time, and The Caretaker.

Dimensions in Time. All the classic Doctors and a bunch of companions, even some of the dead ones, and then it crosses over with a soap opera as a foreshadowing of how RTD will ruin Doctor Who forever. Plus, someone actually does turn out to be the Rani in this one (even if it's the Rani who turns out to be the Rani instead of Ace).

Dimensions in Time was my first ever Classic Who story.

How in the world did that happen? A really cruel friend trolling you with a recommendation? Being stuck as a houseguest at JNT's place for a weekend? Big Eastenders fan who thought maybe you'd give this Who thing a try for a lark?

I'm assuming it's the big Ron version

Just downloaded doom coalition 1-4. Recently finished war doctor and was hugely disappointed. Should I even bother? Do I need to listen to river song series to get the whole story?
