Give your honest opinion about this movie BUT ONLY if you actually watched it.

>>80165205
Pretty good, 8/10. Had one wtf scene and didnt see the twist coming. This time the movie works without the twist and doesnt fall apart if you know it or see it from miles away. The sub plot was touching and disturbing for me. Probably my favorite McAvoy performance.
>>
>>80165205
2/10 didn't watch
>>
>>80165205

I loved it. 8.5/10. Typical Shyamalan, and I love his 'small' movies. McAvoy was awesome, and I like the surviving girl. She wasn't an idiot.
>>
>>80165205
Good movie. Up there with signs, sixth sense, and unbreakable.

Breddy gud, glad shamlalamaamdingdong's back, hopefully he doesn't fuck the unbreakable sequel up. Also, pic related
>>
>>80165205
It had some segments that were pretty good. But the premise is disgusting and vilifies the mentally ill. Since they were already using supernatural elements, there were less damaging ways they could've approached it.
I like McAvoy though, he did the best he could.
>>
It was a good movie and if it wasn't for the bad acting of the other two girls and the beast actually being an unstoppable demon it would be great

Very enjoyable, restored my belief that M Night still has the ability to make good movies. Mcavoy gave a great performance and the qt from the VVitch did a good job too.

It was great except for 2 of the young girls acting. Dunno why but the credits scene gave me more hype than anything tried by any other studio trying to pull a cinematic universe

It just felt a little absurd despite the movie foreshadowing it the entire time. I guess it was just too extreme.
>>
>>80165205
it is low budget, very few special effects, though not necessarily a bad thing. i found the actor difficult to believe as i know more than a few schizophrenics personally. little things broke the immersion for me, like the man dressing as a woman when he changed personalities. there was no suspense. actor spends 10 minutes describing the beast, big final surprise is the beast arrives on cue and acts exactly as he says. i had a choice between watching this and fifty shades darker. i dont regret watching it, although i will never rewatch it like i would an engaging film.

>>

Decent film.
Started pretty strong but got real stupid later on.
The old woman was awful and the very end was shit.
McCavoy was great though.
>>

I know that but the mental illness is similar in ways, those that i know get possessed by voices and become threatening, start spouting things they couldnt possibly know etc.

>>
>>80166160
Pretty much this. The movie handles the multiple personality thing poorly, and it felt and cumbersome/boring. Uninteresting flat characters. The ending is ridiculous too he lets her live because she has self harm cuts? OH SHE UNDERSTANDS THE PAIN. The scene where they play rape animals was kino though.
>>
>>80165982
t. Mentally ill
>>
>>80166614

But those aren't the same thing. At all. Schizophrenia is more auditory hallucinations that come from a genetic predisposition and is usually caused by chemical imbalances. You can be "possessed" but it's something you're born with.

DID is more of a coping mechanism that someone developed after years of abuse. Someone can be perfectly healthy from a mental standpoint and develop DID whereas someone with schizophrenia is usually born with it and doesn't come on until adolescence.
>>
>>80166661

t.pedophile redditor
>>
>>80166614

It's different.
>>
>>80166590

It was pretty clear. The beast saw those who were "broken" (abuse victims) as superior because in his mind they are stronger from surviving and knowing the evil that people can do. So when he saw the girls scars from being abused he realized she needed to be spared, in his psychopath logic.
>>
>>80166566
Yeah, entirely by their own choice. So it's good that we continue to punish them for it and perpetuate false stigmas which leads to social rejection, exclusion and attacks.
Truly what we should aspire to as a society.
>>

look i don't understand schizophrenia, i'm just familiar with it. i live in a cluster of depressive psychosis according to statistics in the country with the highest rate of schizophrenia per capita in the whole world so almost everyone i know is damaged in some way, some have multiple things wrong with them.

>>
>>80167598
The nature of people is unpredictable, I'm not a fan of that either. But statistically speaking there is an insignificant percentage of violent crimes - or any crimes - that were committed by people with actual mental illness.
Locking somebody up for something that is outside of their control and which is in most cases only harmful to themselves is pointless and doesn't solve the problem. Isolating somebody like that does more damage and costs more resources than tackling the problem and trying to find balanced medical/therapeutic solutions.

What about people who are so far gone that they can't be helped?
I'm for the death penalty so I'd say if someone is unhinged in a way that makes them violent and they kill or seriously injure someone because of it, they should be removed from society.
In those that can be reformed or "fixed", as with criminals I would say reform them to the point where they can be good, productive members of society.
>>
>>80167803
>You weren't supposed to feel sympathy for the girls anon.
Not sure what that has to do with them all being flat characters.
Just because a character is well developed doesn't mean you're going to sympathize with them, an inkling of a personality would've been nice.

Solid thriller. Great performances from McAvoy and the qt in this thread. Nice tight script, perfect pacing, satisfying conclusion. It's basically the type of movie people came to respect M. Night for making before he ruined his reputation entirely. Not quite what I would call a perfect film - which is how I would describe Signs and Unbreakable - but a good sign that it's a mistake to write the writer/director off just yet.

I also want to stress just how bad The Visit was. It wasn't even funny bad like The Happening, or boring bad like Avatar. It was aggressively bad, almost like a personal, 90 minute insult to the viewer. None of the characters are likable, the cinematography is nonexistent because it's fucking found footage, the "scares" can't even elicit a grin, much less a jump. White kid rapping to bookend the movie is a good summary of its quality. If not for Shyamalan's previous work and positive word of mouth, I would have avoided Split solely because of The Visit.

>>
>>80168211
you don't need a story arc to be a developed character.

everybody dying but Anya was lame anyway.
>>
>>80168271
It was a lower budget film.
So, that was probably the best they could do. Besides, how would you have changed it?
>>
>>80167970
Murder is another story, that's a case to case issue. You cannot set the same penalty for all murder crimes, that's why we have a justice system in place that studies these cases taking into account all factors etc. How efficient that system is, that's another issue.
The prison system is outdated and does more harm than damage at this point though. Not saying that the death penalty is the next best solution.
Determining what "productive" and "fixed" means is very difficult. Our predecessors for example didn't deem somebody worthy of living solely on the basis of their productivity. Otherwise we wouldn't have advanced this far. The system in place now has made us believe that just because a person cannot contribute in the traditional sense, they're a burden and worthless. You cannot expect to rehabilitate somebody with serious issues within these expectations.
There should be an entirely different system in place that would deal with all of this but I've aready overdone it considering where we are, sorry.
>>
>>80168141
Yeah, that would be a valid point if there were more prominent movies with a more positive representation. And they did address DID in general in the movie. So while the movie was about this specific person, it was displayed in the context of that disorder. And the general audience who's not familiar with it might subconsciously associate that violent behavior with the people suffering DID. They did more harm than good trying to explain it desu.
>>
>>80168320
Didn't think about what I would've changed and this thread is going to be archived and you'll be gone before I do.

But I hated how obvious the sequel hook was and that she still lived with her uncle.
The uncle shit, by the way, was very heavy handed. It explained why she's closed off and why she has abuse scars, but there were too many scenes dedicated to it, we were given a lot of unnecessary information.

I know it wasn't the point of the movie and it didn't matter, but I would've liked if the girls had been more defined anyway.
They weren't friend, she was invited to the party just to be inclusive, but I imagine your relationship changes when you get kidnapped by a psycho.
... though they were separated, probably to avoid development. And I just remembered the black girl and Edge of Seventeen girl almost got free with the coathanger, too bad that didn't work out.
