>Moana
>Frozen
What has happened to Disney? These movies were just, forgettable. Frozen felt like a decent idea handled in the most messy and lifeless way possible. Moana tried to be different with it's setting but was otherwise so generic and predictable it lost all it's charm.
Does Disney just not care? With the insane amount of budget that goes into making these movies couldn't they hire writers and directors willing to put in enough effort to make actually memorable and creative movies? Kids will go see them anyways.
It feels like there is an active attempt to make everything aimed at children as bland and forgettable as possible.
>Frozen
>Forgettable
Are you serious? It's their most popular movie of all time.
>>80144685
Yeah and it was generic and forgettable. Kids like the pretty girls but that doesn't make the movie good.
>>80144621
Disney movies are like coca cola. They're made to be forgotten so you don't remember the shitty taste in your mouth when you ready your wallet for the next one. It can be the only explanation.
>>80144723
>it's forgettable because I say so
you are a giant faggot
>>80144791
>He thought Frozen was actually good
>>80144621
Moana was great. Basically a return to form, everything worked the way it should and within the ocean/island theme without unnecessary bizarre shit like rock trolls, unnecessary songs and LE EPIC BETRAYAL TWIST.
If you hate Moana, you should be executed to prevent retarded genes from polluting the gene pool.
>>80144621
>moana
>not AMOTY
apply yourself
>>80144852
It was better than Frozen but Frozen was a hideous mess, doesn't make it a great movie just because it's less of a wreck than the last princess movie.
How many return to forms does Disney need? Tangled was a return to form and was actually pretty good, then they spread their ass cheeks and shit out Frozen. Now they need another return to form? Wew.
>>80144621
I wouldn't call Frozen forgettable. There were some forgettable parts, but between Let it Go and the Hans twist, Frozen is hard to forget as a whole.
Big Hero 6, Moana, Tangled, The Princess and the Frog, Brave, Bolt, were all not really good.
Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia are fantastic though.
>>80144852
>>80144909
Sing and Trolls were both better than Moana.
>>80144621

>>80144685
only because they pushed it every fucking where
how can all of you seriously think Moana was good? It was funny, had beautiful animation, and a great soundtrack. But the writing, pacing, characterization, and setting? WACK.
>>80144621
>Moana
This movie was garbage
1. Boring characters. Both of them look disgusting. Moana look generic at best.
2. Entire boring plotline on the fucking boat
3. Rehashed backstories. Moana is an Ariel rip off
4. Jokes are flat or they trying to be meta
5. Songs were horrible, so forgetable and not catchy at all. They were mostly spewing exposition in most cases.
6. The forced chicken and little tatooguy tried too hard as typical Disney mascots
7. Fucking ending, good to know the main hero is responsible for the death of everyone who ever dies and not only goes scott free but also gets rewarded
Seriously fuck this movie. A typical production made by black suits and created out of every Disney archetype. Seriously making a main character a woman or black will automatically have critics rate this as 95% on rotten tomatoes. Fucking brainless SJW's.
>Shoehorned niceguy love interest that has no actual point of existing in the plot
>Dreamy prince that seems too good to be true (and he is, with no foreshadowing!)
>Shoehorned comedy character that is unfunny and out of place
>Anna is spunky and perfect the whole movie
>Else is damaged and isolated the whole movie for a poorly explained reason, until the very end when she is suddenly no longer damaged and isolated
>Elsa has no redemption arc or anything where she makes up for the things she did
>Instead Anna has a redemption moment when she sacrifices herself, even though she was basically perfect the whole movie
>Arendelle's theme at the beginning and end is for some reason some generic African chant
>All mysterious elements of the plot are explained by exposition trolls
>The opening act was basically entirely music and then there was barely any at all for the rest of the movie
>The introduction of Elsa, Anna, and their family was insanely rushed
Frozen had good ideas but it was messy, it felt like they just mashed a bunch of ideas into one movie without any real drive to turn those ideas into a good movie.
>>80148667
Both wanted to go somewhere they weren't supposed to go because they were after something more than their home had to offer. Father says no you can't go. They go on their quest anyways in hopes of getting what they were after while sing Disney songs, and accompanied by their cute side kick pet. In the end they are rewarded, and get what they were after while making their fathers eat humble pie.
Same shit, but this time with brown characters.
>>80148721
In the climax of both films the main teen female lead must battle a larger than life sea creature.
>>80144621
>Frozen
Frozen was a lazy story with shittty modern day pop-songs that sounded like they belonged more on a High School Musical/ Glee soundtrack than in a timeless Disney animated film.
We wait YEARS in between Disney films like Big Hero 6, and Zootopia to get a new princess movie. Princess films are supposed to include some type of romantic love story. Even is it's the B-plot to the main story it needs to in there. The fact that there's no prince in this film blows chunks! We already had a wasted Lesbo/A-Sexual princess goes on a quest movie, and it's called Brave.
Moana is just Brown Brave at this point. Sure the quest / journey is different, but it's still a quest flick where the free spirited princess needs to learn something.
>>80144621
How about this lump of shit?
I thought it was going to cool, like the main character would have to be BRAVE and kill some Englishmen. The entire plot turned out to be"your mom turned into a bear". Thats IT. That's the movie.
>>80144723
Nah, if anything it was more relatable and had more emotional content than any other Disney movie to date aside for maybe Hunchback. It was successful because it wasn't generic and it spoke to the isolation that a lot of kids and people in general feel.
>>80148960
Them hair physics though.
>>80148667
For me, Moana was competently made but utterly generic and flat. Unlike Frozen which seemed to have fresh ideas but just botched nearly all of them. I'm not sure what is better, but in terms of enjoyment I give Moana which is an improvement over Frozen's .
Moana entertained me for the entire film, even if I won't remember it much or ever want to put it on a few years down the road.
>1. Boring characters. Both of them look disgusting. Moana look generic at best
Moana is thicker and more realistic than most Disney girls, I know /tv/ will never care about this but it is cool. It's better than the literal copy pasted model they've been using since Tangled at least.
Maui is meant to be ugly.
>2. Entire boring plotline on the fucking boat
>3. Rehashed backstories. Moana is an Ariel rip off
Will agree with these, it's generic as shit. Just felt like a story I've seen a million times already.
>4. Jokes are flat or they trying to be meta
There was a lot of meta jokes that didn't really do it for me, nothing else did either.
>5. Songs were horrible, so forgetable and not catchy at all. They were mostly spewing exposition in most cases.
How Far I'll Go and You're Welcome were catchy, but I couldn't name any others. They were often spewing exposition but one plus I'll give Moana is they all at least tied into the plot and didn't feel like the movie had to take a break to sing.
>6. The forced chicken and little tatooguy tried too hard as typical Disney mascots
Little tattoo guy I liked because he at least had influence on the plot in a way, played like a little angel on Maui's shoulder. Not sure why the cute pig was put on a bus to make room for a shitty chicken.
>7. Fucking ending, good to know the main hero is responsible for the death of everyone who ever dies and not only goes scott free but also gets rewarded
Like Frozen, everything gets wrapped up in a little bow after the bad guy is defeated. Nothing else has consequences.

it's because these movies are never based out of an idea anymore. they are born, conceived, written, and filmed by people who do not fucking care about it's inception. you know why the pixar stretch up to like 2008 was so legendary? because they were a studio that CARED. they made movies that came from ideas. they had a passion for what they worked on. it's the same reason the meal you order at a 5 star restaurant is a hell of a lot better than one from applebees.
these movies don't come from creative sparks anymore. pixar, marvel, whatever other disney properties, are born in a board room and is created in real time with the constant approval of focus testers. nobody has a vision. nobody takes risks. they make a product that they know audiences and critics will eat up. most people don't see through it. because most people are fucking retards.
disney, as a whole, is creatively bankrupt. they may make you think they have new and fresh ideas. but they dont. they just know how to makke money. i guess thats just as well

Frozen has literally become one of the most iconic Disney movies for children these days, and Moana, despite not being as iconic, was still an amazingly entertaining movie.

Moana was probably a big hit all over Polynesia, because it contained a lot of imagery and folklore that islanders were raised on and intimately understand. Having vacationed in Hawaii, I am aware of some of it, and was able to imagine, from my limited experience, how much my Hawaiian friends must appreciate the many cultural and historic references in the film. I'm betting a lot of them consider it a favorite movie, as well as a work of art. I pretty sure, though, that a lot of it went way over the heads of people who don't know any islanders, or have have never been to Polynesia.

>>80155412
In Norway we greatly enjoyed Frozen's little winks to our culture, so I can totally see how Moana gave you guys a few winks.
Despite not being a fan of the overly feminin storylines, the newer Disney movies touch on a lot of smaller cultures that would otherwise not be represented in kids movies.
>>80155675
Looking back at it, I don't think I enjoyed Zootopia as much. I think at least part of the reason is that it didn't have as much charming music.

Maui was portrayed as a demigod who used his powers to secure blessings for humanity, even going as far as to claim the power of creation for no other reason than that he wanted humanity to have it instead.
The only point I can almost point in your favor is that Moana's father in the start of the movie seems like he's a hard-core conservative with a traditional value system while the mother is more open-minded and decides to let her daughter go because muh destiny.
I didn't get much of the SJW-undertones from Moana at all.

>>80149916
>>80149960
Moana was fun, but the ending of Tangled makes me grin ear to ear and cry every time. For that reason it wins for me.
Moana was a fun adventure story though, I just think it needed a liiiittle bit more to make it more memorable. Some extra turn of the plot before the end.
>>80155992
The only song it really had I didn't like, Gazelle was like my least favourite part of the movie. Zootopia was a fun bunny cop comedy but it's message was maybe a little too messy and on the nose.
I enjoyed it but funny talking animal movies always are missing the same charm for me that the princess/fairy tale movies do. At least for me.
>XDDDD THE ROOSTER DID SOMETHING DUMB :DDDDD BUT IT PAYS OFF WHEN IT HELPS SAVE THE DAY

I don't get what you people saw in Tangled. You essentially knew the story before it began, and the characters' personalities are all essentially revealed in their first scenes.
>the brave but sheltered heroine turns out to be the brave but sheltered heroine
>the evil kidnapping granny villain turns out to be the evil kidnapping granny villain
>the dashing and brash rogue with a heart of gold turns out to be the dashing and brash rogue with a heart of gold
Don't get me wrong, I didn't really enjoy Moana or Frozen for that matter either, but Tangled-fans seems so crusader-like in their desire to see things that aren't there.
>>80156245
Heyhey was genuinely funny faggot.
I think it was mentioned earlier with Brave but Im gonna go for a long shot here and say its because she wasnt attractive enough. It might be a subconscious thing but these characters were ugly. Or it might be a race thing. Always wondered why we never got a mexican princess or a black one up until 2009 and by the way that movie tanked too.
>>80156261
>LETS TAKE THE SMUG ANIMAL SIDEKICK AND MAKE TWO OF THEM THIS TIME
The horse was literally from Mulan or Hunch Back or fuck man its the same god damn horse!
And then lizard fuck him too. At least Moana pointed this out.
>>80156286
In fairness this was probably just SJW pandering. A lot of the males in the movie were quite over-weight, and even some of the girls took a step away from the usual hourglass look Disney usually gives them.
A lot of people actually praise Moana for the more "realistic" (in other words less pretty) characters.
>>80156261
Yeah Tangled is overrated as fuck. Best thing about it was 3d cartoon version of prime Olivia d'Abo.
