Yes. That was always at least half the appeal of her. She clearly studied Delgado, Ainley, and Simm to prepare for playing Missy.
>>
On set source claimed the finale has large sequences set on Parallel Earth and this is where the Cybus Cybermen are introduced to the story. Source didn't give too much away in terms of plot but it's not a Cybermen civil war. The Cybermen do not fly in the episode as feared - they are in fact being teleported to their ship. Rose and Metacrisis Ten will feauture in the Parallel Earth scenes working in 'parallel' (if you'll pardon the expression) with 12, Bill and Nardole. Missy remains 'frenemies' with the Doctor but later turns. This leads to her regeneration. Nardole is set to die in Ep 11 in an abrupt and powerful scene and Pearl is leaving in Episode 12 - like Martha, she leaves on her own accord. Cliffhanger leads into Christmas.

Absolutely.

That's a bit of a disappointing way to ruin them though, since that was already one of the ways they ruined the Cybermen in general. Should show some originality when explicitly ruining the original design. Maybe they could have a scene where a single Cybus Cyberman stomps them all to death

Ep11:
>On the planet Mondaran, Willoway leads the resistance fighters against the Cybermen, conquerors of the planet. Reinforcements are called from Telos, including Junior Cyber-Leader Kroton. Following his capture and interrogation, Willoway dies. Kroton is 'puzzled' by his sacrifice and tracks down fellow rebels, Marilka and her lover Pendar. When the rebels are betrayed by the businessman Zarek, Kroton helps Pendar escape and takes him away from the city. Suspecting Kroton's erratic behaviour, the Cyber-Leader tracks them down. Turning against the Cybermen, Kroton helps the rebels escape to the safety of the Forest of Lorn, then removes the craft and takes it into space. Without fuel, batteries drained and unable to return, Kroton drifts on.

Ep12:
>Kroton encounters the Doctor and his companion on the Qutrusian Cargo Freighter X-703. After assisting them, he joins them in the TARDIS. The Doctor and Kroton must fight the Master and Sato for the Glory, where the protector of the Glory has full powers over space and time...

Of course the MC is the Valeyard. Somewhere between the Doctor's 12th and final regenerations? He's literally the only plausible thing if you're just talking about the original cycle.
>>
Tennant as valeyard Meta crisis 10 and as the series 10 villain would actually be GOAT, Tennant is great when he plays evil.
>>
>>80149288
What about the idea from Trial of the Valeyard, that he's the result of experiments the "last" Doctor (11 on Trenzalore, as it turned out) did to try and extend his cycle? You could get a great Matt Smith audio boxset out of that.
>>
>>80149079
>Night of the Doctor canonized the Eight Doctor audios
>One of which included the Doctor's reunion with Susan

I wonder how will they'll mention it.

>>
>>80149397
Maybe it's evil Matt who 12 is hiding in the basement.
>>
>>80149344
I can't think of a way they could present it without it being really convoluted and alienating to most of the audience.
>>
>>8014928
>>80149344
Kilgrave!Valeyard would be tits.
Maybe his human side turns him evil and he kills Rose. Horribly.
He's more of a hybrid than anyone
>>
>>80149079
I still believe that Moff fucked up by not having Susan convincing the Doctors not to press the button in the 50th. It'd make much more sense than fucking Clara giving a speech and changing everyone's minds.
>>
>>80149445
Just show a quick flashback to Journeys end, and the Valeyard can explain that he was meta-crisis 10 and in the desperation for regeneration's he became how he is.

The majority audience wouldn't care anyway they'd just get wet over Tennant being back.
>>
>>80149542
Regardless i'm really excited as to who the series 10 big bad is.
>>
>>80149542
>Just show a quick flashback to Journeys end, and the Valeyard can explain that he was meta-crisis 10 and in the desperation for regeneration's he became how he is.
Your sentence explaining how to explain it to normies has left me confused.
>>
>>80149618
A Flashback to Petes World, showing the audience that things didn't work out between Rose and Meta-Crisis 10. Meta-Crisis 10 didn't want to be stuck as a mortal, knows the Doctor is still busing around in the original universe and somehow he manages to escape back into our reality to steal 12's ''unlimited'' regeneration cycle.
>>
>>80149542
>The majority audience wouldn't care anyway they'd just get wet over Tennant being back.
Which is why the best idea is to not explain it at all. Just start off with "Allonsy! Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

Then you can sneak in an explanation gradually over the course of two episodes, but don't give people flashbacks or an infodump to get through at the start.
>>
>>80149745
Really it's unrealistic to think that people tuning in now would necessarily have seen Tennant's run, let alone Trial of a Time Lord
>>
>>80149817
Then that's their fault. And I'd say the vast majority have, why do you think most casual viewers still demand Tennant back?
>>
>>80149817
So what? When a brand-new villain pops up, they don't start off with a big infodump telling you this new villain is, they start off with him being a villain. If the Doctor learns his backstory at all, it's toward the end of the episode.

So treat him as a new enemy (with just enough hints to make sure the fans get that he's the Meta-Valeyard, if you must) and just use him as a good villain, and then start giving us the background further into the story.
>>
>>80149857
>Then that's their fault.
This is the kind of stupid thinking that would get the show cancelled. Even just Journey's End is almost a decade old. You can't just reintroduce obscure plot points that old and expect your audience to keep up.
>>
>>80148802
Rassilon
>>
>>80149515
Eh, I can kind of see it, but the I think the main point of Clara's speech was that Clara knew 11 and couldn't believe he was capable of blowing up Gallifrey. Susan has a more personal relationship with the Doctor but wouldn't really be as relevant to the story since she hasn't met the post-Time War Doctor before.
>>
Doctor Who has never really been much about continuity between incarnations. Once The Doctor regenerates it's mostly a blank slate.
>>
>>80149914
>Utopia
>The Master
>>
>>80149515
Paul Cornell predicted about 9 years ago that RTD wouldn't bring back Susan, and neither would his successor, because any showrunner would be paralyzed by the question of whether to give her a regeneration story or not. (Because once you do, you can bring Susan back again, but not Carole Anne Ford.)

I think that's going a little too far. I can see the dilemma, but it's pretty obvious that Carole Anne Ford isn't going to be coming back every two seasons anyway at this point, so… if you want to regenerate her, just do it.
>>
>>80150142
Completely different. The Master isn't an obscure plot point, they're a character that's spanned most of the show's history and is known even to casual viewers. You don't need to explain the Master in the same way you have to explain the Valeyard or Meta-10.
>>
>>80149914
Yes you can. You EXPLAIN it to your audience. Doctor who is a show that often brings back old characters and ''lore'' points. The rules of regeneration for example weren't mentioned again until 11 had to regenerate. The regeneration limit was first mentioned decades ago. 11 simply explained it to Clara and thus the audiences understood. In a show like this you have to take risks, taking the easy ''oh the modern audience won't understand, let's play it safe root'' is what is stupid and is what will kill the show if it is too often enacted.

Well, the biggest exception to that tradition is 9 to 10. Both incarnations are ultimately all about a continuous developing relationship with Rose. So I think people who started in 2005 may have different expectations of continuity across incarnations than classic fans.

I still don't get why both of you think it needs to be explained before people can enjoy it.

It obviously need to be explained at some point by the end so people don't look back on it and think "Wait a second, why was David Tennant the bad guy?", but while people are watching most of the story, if the Meta-Valeyard is a good enough villain to be worth watching that's all that matters to anyone's enjoyment. You two are arguing about whether Moffat could or couldn't pull off a JNT, which is just the wrong question.

But what you say goes the same for Clara, she hadn't met 10 or the War Doctor before the 50th, I don't think that relevancy matters.
And if it was Susan giving the speech that she couldn't believe her grandfather, whatever version he was, could be capable of blowing up Gallifrey, it would be much more impactful and made much more sense. As in, the only person who could stop him from that madness is his beloved granddaughter.
>>
>>80150289
I agree with what you're saying but it's not really in contradiction with my point. There's a huge difference between having a line that restates the regeneration limit and bringing back the actor who played possibly the most successful Doctor ever and just being like "oh lol, that's a doctor who grew out of a hand and lives in a parallel universe"

Bringing back Meta-10 is pure fanwank, and it's difficult to present fanwank in a way that is also understandable and enjoyable to the rest of the audience (which is actually the vast majority).
>>
>>80150290
Yeah, that's true. I think the RTD years form one greater arc between 9 and 10. It could all have been 9 and been little different.

> there is a timeline in which Eccleston stayed all the way through 2009
> there is a timeline in which Moffatt and Tennant both started at S5
> there is a timeline in which there was no Tennant; Eccleston regenerated into Smith
> There is a timeline in which Capaldi is uncomplicatedly the 12th Doctor
>>
>>80150590
>There is a timeline in which Smith stayed for S8

>Yeah, that's true. I think the RTD years form one greater arc between 9 and 10. It could all have been 9 and been little different.
But now imaging that instead of tossing the regeneration, you toss the series 4 arc.

S2 makes us think the regeneration was important because it's why the Doctor can now be with Rose—but, psyche, that ends with Doomsday. And then Tennant has another 2-1/2 seasons that are about being Tennant—getting over Rose is part of it, but no more than his relationship with the Master, and a dozen other things.

It's only because Rose comes back that it doesn't matter that Tennant isn't Eccleston.

>But what you say goes the same for Clara, she hadn't met 10 or the War Doctor before the 50th, I don't think that relevancy matters.
But that's the idea. Clara knows 11 but not the War Doctor and to her it's inconceivable that the Doctor would do what War does. That's why 11 realizes he can't accept his past self's decision and tries to come up with another way. I guess if it was Susan she'd be reminding him of who he used to be pre-War Doctor, with Clara it's reminding him how much he's changed and isn't like War anymore. Also, I'm not sure using the Moment would be that out of character for the 1st Doctor. He never really had to face a decision of directly sacrificing innocents for the greater good, but he did show that he was comfortable with genocide and letting people die so that history could take its course and I'm reminded of the ending to The Daleks' Master Plan where he seems more relieved about defeating the Daleks than he is sad about losing his companions. In the end I think he probably wouldn't do it, but it's easier to imagine 1 pressing the button than 10 and 11. Then again, they could have put Susan in Night of the Doctor and tied it in with the ear stories, having her relationship with the Doctor in Day also be based on him, but 8 is even more obscure a Doctor than 1, so I don't know if that'd be a good idea.
>>

>>
>>80150911
>In your timeline, who was the 8th Doctor who presumably started near the end of S27, and why did he stay for 6 years? Or are you letting Capaldi break Tom Baker's record?
Richard Griffiths only did just over 3 years as Eight, from S27-S30, and Capaldi broke Tom's record by staying from the middle of S30 until the end of S37. After which he was replaced by Paul McGann as Ten, of course.
>>
>>80149817
Trial of a time lord maybe. But if you haven't seen Tennant's run then you don't like the show enough to actually care and would just accept whatever is being thrown at you.

Seriously, more people are looking for pics of "that guy James Bond played on the one with the Master in" than "Rassilon"?
>>
>>80151799
Well it wasn't really emphasized that he was Rassilon, just sort of mentioned offhand, so I'd assume a lot of people don't know he is. In fact I'd say it's a successful example of what that one anon is suggesting to do with the Valeyard.
>>
>>80151916
10 calls him Rassilon.
>>
>>80152002
But wanderer is right, that's one scene, almost at the end of the second half of the story. Up until then, they only call him "Lord President".

And even then, we don't get any backstory at all. Everything we know about how the Time Lords resurrected their founder to lead them again in the War comes from RTD behind the scenes (Confidential, DWM, interviews). I don't think that even got confirmed in-universe until Engines of War?
>>
>>80151622
> ywn hear a War Doctor audio in which he must return to the Divergent Universe to retrieve Rassilon
> ywn hear Don Warrington reprise the role and then Rassilon regenerates into Timothy Dalton
>>
>>80152535
I think there's a resurrection-of-Rassilon story in Seasons of War where they get him from the Matrix or something
>>
>>80152746
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how they did it.

Engines established that Rassilon was resurrected from the Matrix, and then one of the audios reiterates that, and implies that Rassilon had been able to upload a copy of his mind into the Matrix without dying (because he built the thing), so the older Rassilon trapped in the Divergent Universe isn't necessary.

Still, I wouldn't mind them retconning that away for anon's Warrington->Dalton regeneration scene.
>>
>>80152799

>So wait is the Tomb of Rassilon still occupied by Rassilon or what?
I haven't listened to Zagreus in forever. I can't remember whether he let himself die and then reconstituted his body at the end of time from the Matrix, or faked his corpse and copied himself into the Matrix while time traveling to the end of time.

I suppose it doesn't actually matter. Either way, he was resurrected from the Matrix; whether that Matrix upload happened as he died or as he faked his death, it's the same upload, right?

Or maybe it does matter. Do Time Lord minds in the Matrix go through time the same way living ones do, or are they sort of all over all of time at once?
>>
>>80152849
>So technically the Dalton/Sumpter Rassilon isn't the original?
Well, RTD always said "resurrected", so that's true with or without any of the Big Finish stuff.

I suppose you could claim none of that was shown in-universe if you wanted to be all TARDIS Data Core about it, but in that case, we don't even know he's The Rassilon, he could just be another guy with the same name.

>The original Mondasian Cybermen return to Doctor Who as filming begins on the final block of the forthcoming series…

>Filming has begun on the final two episodes of Doctor Who series 10, with this first look image revealing the return of a much-feared classic foe.

>The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is pictured with the Mondasian Cybermen – the original version of the Doctor’s deadly enemies who hail from the planet Mondas and have not been seen in Doctor Who for over fifty years.

>The Mondasian Cybermen - Peter Capaldi’s long-time favourite foe - will return in episodes 11 and 12 of the series, alongside Capaldi as the Doctor, Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts, Matt Lucas as Nardole and Michelle Gomez as Missy. The episodes, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, are now filming in Cardiff.

There's no reason in principle that people couldn't work the way you're suggesting, but I don't think anyone involved in Doctor Who ever has. Even RTD, who often delivered his scripts the day shooting started (and wrote a whole book about his writing process, so we know what happened) never considered revising a story because of the way another one turned out after shooting.

Of course he did sometimes revise stories based on the _scripts_ of other stories he'd commissioned, and I'm pretty sure Moffat does the same, but those come in a lot earlier.

>>
>>80155885
That's a good point, it's probably all done in the scripting stage, as it should be. I just remember reading something in the Heaven Sent script about the confession dial and how they'd have to "cheat" and change the way it looked for something. I assume that was because they'd already broadcasting the first episodes.

I should probably look that up again because I only half-know what I'm referring to here.

>It's cheaper to have a story set on earth
Mondas is almost exactly like Earth, that's the whole point. It's what this Series 10 episode seems to be about.

Is this what happens to the Sisterhood of Karn when the sacred flame runs out?

[screencap me]
>>
>>80158139
They look like males tho.
>>
>>80158139
they're not the sisterhood of karn or the sybilline sisterhood

they're new
>>
>>80158222
They could be connected to Gallifrey though.
>>
>>80158242
they're not
>>
I went to secondary school with Pearl Mackie, I rode her at a house party, shy enough girl, sex was okay. Not actually joking.
>>

They may be inferior in-universe, but they're far superior in reality so there is no enjoyment in watching the newest Cybermen stomp all over them.

It would be like watching Tennant call Hartnell an idiot and then violently humiliating him. While, technically, the 10th Doctor would know a lot more than the 1st, it's not something we want to see.
>>
>>80158242
no, because not everything is fanwank
>>
>>80158261
We'll see anon. Unless you have proof they are ''new''
>>
>>80158263
Cool story pal.

yes, we'll see.

they're new. watch this space.
>>
>>80158279
Connecting a new creature to Gallifrey is not fan wank. It's called expanding the established lore.
>>
>>80158302
only fans care about "established lore", it's fanwank
>>
>>80158317
Implying the writers aren't fans, Nothing wrong with fanwanking. Get over yourself woman.
>>
>>80158338
>Nothing wrong with fanwanking
>show declines in the ratings
>show becomes unpopular
>nobody cares about doctor who
>show cancelled like the 80s because of fan cockrubbing
>>
tbf bringing back the Mondas cybermen is the ultimate fanwank
