>"The world's smartest man poses no more threat to me than does its smartest termite"

How does this make sense? He was a man once and not even the smartest one, thus proving man can achieve godlike powers. Or is he saying even a second Dr. Manhattan cannot harm him?
>>
If someone recreated the Dr. Manhattan accident they would no longer be a man. Until they surpass humanity they might as well not even exist to him.
>>
Why didn't the government try to make more dr.manhattans
>>
>>80139556

Most people can't reassemble themselves from the molecule up.
>>
>>80139487
He probably understands that his ability to reconstitute himself was only because of his history as both a scientist and a watch repairsman combined with a freak accident and that it just isn't going to happen again.
>>
>>80139696
you just have to round up all the watchmakers and force them to interbreed, then take their children and teach them physics and basic anatomy
>>
He seemed smart before but did he become smarter after the accident?? Or did he just know the future???
>>
Was there any way to stop Dr Manhattan?

Also, what would you do if you were him?
>>
>>80139830
He's basically omniscient
>>
>>80139830
Even humans can block his vision of the future with their tachyon research. If another godlike being came into power he'd probably be able to mask it so dr. manhattan can't kill him in his crib.
>>
>>80139873
>Was there any way to stop Dr Manhattan?
stop him from doing something he wants to do? No. But Ozymandias managed to stop him from finding out his plans

>Also, what would you do if you were him?

probably the same, I'd get bored after a while and fuck off to space to become god to some primitives
>>
Reminder that DC has decided to bring Watchmen into the normal DC canon and are making Dr. Manhattan a villain

New Marvel and DC comics suck, anon.
>>
>>80140144
yes. That's more or less the theme of Injustice. But there is some Batman plot armor fuckery too
>>
Do you think Ozymandias didn't want Dr. Manhattan's power because he foresaw his own disillusionment with a life of omnipotence or because he was scared to take the risk of disintegrating himself?
>>
>>80140233
he was too in love with himself, becoming a blue god clearly changes you forever
>>
>>80139487
>a second Dr. Manhattan

Wouldn't be a man.

Does marvel have any postmodern superheroes? They have to be popular enough to warrant a film adaptation, so no obscure ones.

We had a thread about this earlier today but
>still not realising that Manhattan's 'Godlike' abilities were wildly exaggerated by the American cold war propaganda machine because he was their ultimate doomsday weapon and they needed him to keep the rest of the world in check
>still not realising that the whole reason the Watchmen world had a divergent timeline was because of Manhattan shifting the balance of power heavily towards the US at the very start of the cold war
Ozymandias' ultimate success wasn't framing Manhattan, it was convincing Manhattan to leave

>>80140551

>>
>>80140589
but how, even in comic book logic, manhattan is above everything, he can see the future, and can manipulate atoms, he could disintegrate everything, except maybe some magic or another lmao speedforce fuckery

Why is DC being a complete fuckup in every possible way again
>>
>>80140636
in INjustice Superman is practically a villain with other superheroes helping him and yet batman keeps BTFOing him, at least initially
>>
>>80139487
Dr. Manhattan was created by freak accident. Even if someone were to recreate the conditions under which he gained his abilities, not only is success not guaranteed (the dr. had to pry himself back out of subspace nonexistence, or rather it is hinted that there was great effort involved, as evidenced by his creation sequence) but Dr. Manhattan has omniscience extending ever beyond the moment of his birth and would have already prevented the creation of another Manhattan.

His latent humanity is literally his only 'flaw' as an extra-dimensional nearly omnipotent being- its the only reason he ever experiences "the present" and the emotional and logical influences that come with experiencing time linearly. However, after relinquishing his love and "playing out his role on earth" by helping the worlds smartest boy unite humanity at the end of the watchmen narrative, we can assume that dr. Manhattan is pretty much guaranteed to zero sum and CHIM the fuck out.

>>80139984
what did he do to block his future sight? I don't remember that. In my recollection I thought manhattan just let it happen because he knew he wouldn't give a fuck by that point.
>>
>>80140589
In the current climate dr. manhattan would be black.
>>
>In an alternative universe created by a burst of unknown particles
>DC decided to reboot their universe with a Man of Steel with less destruction porn
>Followed by a Superman x Watchmen Crossover
>the Dr learns of krypton while researching traces of life in the universe, goes back to earth and meets Supes
>whole paranoia plot from lex is directed at the Dr and he blackmails superman into fighting Dr
>whole fight is Dr trying to reason with superman while the man of steel throws everything he has against the semi-god
>Supes realises the manipulation and they reconciliate
>Dr decides to resume his exile but puts Supes in contact with the martian dude from justice league cartoons

>first justice league is about Nazi scientists who discovered time travel appearing in modern times to get weapons for ww2
>that whole Justice league vs WW2 era time traveling nazi arc in 2 films

Old batman + Supes + Young flash + Catwoman + Martian telepath dude (keep Green lantern/aquaman for another film)

>you will never see those films ever
>>
>>80140756
>what did he do to block his future sight?
he did some experiments that released a shitload of tachyons or whatever. They block Manhattan's prescience
>>
>>80140756
Adrian invested in a research that makes something caleld tachyons, and he can now disturb them, which is the same science mcguffin dr manhattan uses to see his future. At the start of the comic, he cannot see the future after a certain point , as it is clouded, from what he assuems the effects of a massive nuclear war
>>
>>80140233
Both too risky and also I think Ozymandias while scornful of humanity also idolized it's accomplishments, hence his name and love of the Gordion Knot fable. Remember: he's not actually a bad guy. Everything he did he did in greater service to the world and humans as a whole.
>>
>>80140756

what could a second manhattan do? deconstruct him? as he says to veidt, the first thing he learned was to put himself back together. Is the other manhattan going to make him invested in certain people and kill them? hes shown that he doesnt care, and he sees nearly all people as homogeneous. whats saving this new manhattan from the same apathy and disintegration of the ego that the first one went through, and why would the new one care enough to try hurt the original?

he sees the past the present and the future simultaneously, he cant be destroyed, he has no attachment to human interests or humanity itself. he is unbeatable

>>80141065
I don't think so, no, but then again, Talos as a concept is an absolute mess - Talos, Tiber, Wulfarth, Zurin Arctus and Lorkhan are all parts of the same thing, sort of, and I cannot for the life of me understand how. One of them mantled Lorkhan and I think Wulfarth literally faked Tiber's Voice, his Shouts, so the Greybeards would call Tiber Stormcrown. It's early unfathomable.
>>
>>80141614

>Because he's no longer a man. He's far beyond on mortal.

ie man can acquire godlike powers
>>
>>80141687
But Veidt hadn't, and that is who he was talking about. "The worlds smartest man" wasn't a hypothetical, it was Veidt.
>>
Wasn't it confirmed that the old DC universe was actually created by Manhattan in mars?
>>
>>80139487
the fact that you can't understand what he says and then compliment it with your retarded reasoning shows that this movie was probably not made for you.
>>
>>80141687
How is saying, Doc is no longer a man, he is far beyond mortal, a contradiction?

Doc's statement has nothing to do with his own past or even the potential for someone else to gain his powers.

Just as the smartest termite in the world poses no threat to a man, the smartest man in the world poses no threat to Doc. What is confusing here?
>>
>>80141735
Oh god not this bullshit again. How do people still not know how his powers work. He's not omniscient. He perceives all time simultaneously. What he knows tomorrow or next year he knows now, but it's only restricted to what he learns. This is why he's blinded by a localized tachyon blast. This is why he had to be tricked into being in the same place the tachyon blast took place.
>>
>>80141778
>Just as the smartest termite in the world poses no threat to a man

So you live in a world where there's recorded history of a termite spontaneously became a human? Care to post the news clippings?

he means that the worlds smartest man can't come up with a better way of harming Dr. Bronx than the
worlds smartest termite could.

Biting his toe with your jaws is about as effective as using some crude molecule disassembler on him.

Of course if the termite could survive the procedure he did, and became Dr. Termite, he could pose a threat, but that was not the point of the statement.
>>
>>80145457

i think that line could just mean "it didn't kill the human, did you really think it would kill the experienced smurf god?"

he even says that it didn't kill osterman, which means that osterman would still be alive
>>
>>80146536
Nah, i think he was still osterman when he first reappeared. This is supported by whats said throughout the film.
>You're drifting out of touch, doc.
Hes drifting, hes separating himself.
>i am tired of earth, these people.
He has become tired, he is still changing and feeling.
>its like hes forgetting what everything is.
Again, hes separating from humanity.

When he goes to mars, he has become disassociated with life itself and is content. Hes himself.
>>
>>80147025
so he's still osterman, just osterman who became alienated from humanity due to godlike powers and absurd powers of awareness

I think it's mainly the future sight that would fuck him up, that shit is like rewatching scenes in a film you just watched, it's like the world is fake, combine that with godless powers that put him alone above the rest of humanity and the alienation is total, but I think the same thing would happen even if he just had future sight and no other powers
