From the movie title "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo"
If I'm not mistaken 'Electric Boogaloo' is the name of a club in that movie (which is, as you can imagine, about breakdancing) but since that combination of words just sounds awfully silly, it has since become your standard monicker for "unnecessary sequel".

>If I'm not mistaken 'Electric Boogaloo' is the name of a club in that movie
No, it's the name of a dance. But the rest was correct.
See wikipedia:
>The subtitle "Electric Boogaloo", originally a reference to a funk-oriented dance style of the same name, has entered the pop-culture lexicon as a snowclone pejorative nickname to denote an archetypical sequel. The usual connotation is of either a ridiculous sequel title, or of the follow-up to an obscure or eclectic movie (or other work).

Where is this information from
When will she be cast as Driver's cunnyfu for the sequel? When even is the sequel?
>>80141420
Drive was definitely a fluke; not that Refn isn't a fucking great director or that it isn't clearly his film
Drive was supposed to be Refn's transition into generic studio films. But then, I guess being unsatisfied, he changed the script on-set and removed all the dialogue and had such a chemistry with Gosling and decided the soundtrack should be 80s pop music (which became neo-synth) and got tips from his "friend" Von Trier on how to do the violence and ended up making a cult classic on accident
Until Drive, Refn had been very focused on making films that he thought would make him look like a great director (he didn't want to make Pusher 2 or 3 because of this - he only did them because he was bankrupt). With Drive he had effectively given up
After its surprise success and best director win at cannes, he decided to give the whole auteur thing another swing. But Drive is definitely his film, though I think he secretly hates it

Clare Quilty, man. And he's not despicable for being a pornographer but rather for being Humbert's nemesis and "evil twin" – make of that what you will. No screen adaptation ever done the source material justice anyway. The Kubrick version was a worthy effort for the time it was made but the cynical, vitriolic humor of the novel was replaced by fuckin slapstick performances. The 90s version, on the other hand, was all but devoid of humor and just downright lacked the novel's charm. Also, even though the actress portraying Dolores (what was her name? It was French-sounding, I think. And she also was in face/off if I'm not mistaken) was only somewhere between 14 and 15 when the movie was shot she actually LOOKED way too old for that role.

>>80141148

>>80141668
Most of that's confirmed in various interviews with him.
The only speculation is how Refn feels about Drive and whether or not he had given up on his dream (of being the best director in the world) by that point (he definitely accepted it at some point, but he never makes it clear exactly when he gave up. All I know is that it was before Only God Forgives and after Bleeder)
But the rest is literally all said by him at one point or another
>>80141720
Like I said, I don't think he expected it to be received as his best film with universal praise. I think he thought he was putting his own spin on a formulaic action-thriller

They're just buddies and I guess they had a tremendous working relationship
>>80143954
>>80143954
But then again, it's irrelevant. Cinema is a limited medium, ill-equiped to delve into real deepness without loosing its meaning as an audiovisual experience. The best it can do is to try and reach into our emotions to trick us into thinking they have any depth. If you want real laid out deepness, read a book.
Movies like Stalker or The Passion both talk about faith and how to face it while being but human. But they don't address it deeply; they just manage to tingle our sensibilities about the subject and make us think ourself.
But you can take Drive, OGF or Neon demon and have the same reasoning. I spent a lot of time thinking about the character of the police chief in OGF and his relation to Julian; how he was torn between his fillial duties and his remain of a moral compass at the end, when he embraces his judgement after first "sinning by pride" by trying to fight. Or how his brother and him were shaped by their mother and their share of responsability, after all.
Is it deep? I don't really think so, but when it comes to cinema, I think it's enough.

I've seen you tripcode posting a lot lately, do you sell your stuff on ETSY or some thing like that? I would love to have a widding refn paint tbqhwy blood
>>80147818

>>80147935
Except De Palma was an amazing director (who made mediocre movies).
>>80148036
somebody shoot that shitskin pleas
>>80147935
>He's the Brian De Palma of his generation.
Way to insult De Palma.
Unless you're referencing his poorer works, then, yes, Refn is like that.
>>80148144
I'd say exactly the same thing about Refn
>>80148036
hiroshima took "fa.m" from us, blood is now all we have, blood.

Is Bronson or Valhalla Rising good? I liked Drive but didn't like Only God Forgives
>>80136465
damn, Tim Heidecker's looking good these days
>>80145633
sad she's starting to look like that skeleton from stranger things
>>80150912
Everyone likes Bronson, even people who aren't fans of Refn, Valhalla is real slow and very arthouse, still worth a watch just to see if you're into that stuff
>>80151022
I think she's doing alright
>>80150912
Bronson is his best film.
>>80142392
Literally who?
>>80143954
Actually, ads aren't art just because they're sole reason for existence is to sell you shit. I'm stealing this from DFW, but even really good, interesting ads are just that--good ads.
>>80151203
Literally this girl from Tomorrowland
fuck if you like his work or not, he has good taste in the arts
how do you get this patrician
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSMijg8Q_n0
>>80151124
seconded
Critics hate him because he has never made a single decent movie and his fans are all autistic retards who have shit taste in everything.
>>80151124
im such a faggot
>>80151124
That's where you're wrong kiddo
>>80152078
Cool doggo
>>80151582

>>80152182

>>80153720
And I appreciate you :*)
Didn't he get kicked out of school for throwing a desk or some shit? and he's afraid of something everyone does, like driving. Can't remember.
>>80154434
Yeah, I think he says that in the Unscripted show
>>80137213
I don't recognize this man or this set, but just cracked up. Where is this from?
>>80151582
The way he says Ska is cute and I kek'd at the fucking vincent price record
>>80153784

>>80155690
..... Incredible
You have true talent, use it to your advantage dear anon
>>80155690
how did you fuck up the eyes so bad
>>80142963
>muh substance
Go read a book you pseudo-intellectual faggot. Films (of any reasonable length) are an inherently bad medium for discussing any complex issue at length. The """style"""" is the reason why you watch film instead of listen to your favorite album, or read an interesting book, or look at a bunch of fucking photographs.
It's intended to evoke a wide variety of emotions using the stimuli available to the director. The thematic threads tying the work together only constitute a small, but not entirely insignificant portion of what makes a film great, and it's entirely possible to have a great film (or even an artistic masterpiece) with absolutely no coherent thematic threads.
Art is art as long as it really makes you think (or feel, though that usually lends itself back to thinking)
>>80143954
>ads can't have artistic value
w e w, get a load of this pleb.
>>80136465
Is Refn our guy?
>tfw you made half the oc being posted here
I did it fou you guys, glad you enjoy it.
Here, have this other one
>>80156063
Whether we like it or not, yes he is
>>80147253
TOP KEK
>>80156139
Thank you very much
I admire you
>>80156209
>>80151022
Yeah but that "skeleton" is almost thirty and certainly didn't have a growth spurt in the past year.
By the way, Natalia Dyer is starting to look somewhat better now. She, however, definiteky had an eating disorder - OR some really serious problems with her metabolism.
>>80155837
>>80155837
its the process of fuck up and fix until you get bored and bow out, trying different shit and whatever. its trash regardless
>>80155811
I think anyone can do this shit to some extent. Just go in with no expectations you're less likely to hate yourself.
>>80141394
Tfw my 4 year old daughter looks like Dakota Fanning.
>>80156436
That's a negative outlook, don't have that
>>80156462
I hope you're not confusing Elle and Dakota, Dakota is the one on the right, but, take good care of your daughter, she must be a cute
>>80145957
It's on Private Trackers.
>>80156265
>almost thirty
Oh wait. She's twenty. Fucked that one up...
>>80156463
I think its the most postive outlook possible, in terms of motivating yourself to overcome anxiety or fear of criticism. On a long enough time frame everything is trash. The world consists of trash, things that produce trash, and things that will inevitably become trash. Knowing that, there is functionally no reason to do what you want. At the very worst, you make immediate trash. At the very best, you make future trash.
>>80156802
*not do what you want.
there is no afterlife other than the gap of time between when your shit becomes trash
>>80145624
>tfw refn will never give you an autism towel
hey cheers on a good monday/tuesday morning everyone. theres nothing better than being smitten with what you do and i wish that to everyone here.. I know we're all good people that feel like we need to be dicks but the future will be built with good intentions. I may be way too drunk but I sincerely wish the best for everyone here. This board has so much potential
>>80136465
It would be called, Driven retard.
>>80151300
So they're the same as 99% of movies, uh?
If you didn't notice, movies are trying to sell you entertainment. The low form of it, the one that doesn't require you to use your brain. Being it an explosion or a nice shot of teenager girl it's all the same.
uhhh... bump.
I forgot what I wanted to post.
>>80156861
damn dude! That hot frogface comes out through the painting... nice teeth work!
For you, /tv/
https://vimeo.com/206032336
>>80156523
>Dakota is the one on the right
:^)
>>80151410
Does she have a name though?

>he would have a tarot reading every week from his friend Jodorowsky when making the neon demon
Is there a more interesting contemporary director really? This is a rhetorical question, the answer is no.
>>80161739
There's nothing interesting about him other than you relating to his autism
>>80160419
his wife isn't that woman in the back is she
>>80161779
She is. She's probably so used to his autism at this point that it doensn't bother her when he pulls something like that. Top tier wife.
>>80161807
also the other neon demon actress beside the one he's kissing looks pretty triggered after he finishes
>refn has no neck
>gets the actress with the best neck in hollywood to portray the 16 year old girl inside him
>>80161657
>27:30
>"It's no secret by now that I'm from the future"
/our guy/

>John Wick
Everyone who killed the Dog gets a long, drawn out torture scene.
...
Soneone fucks the dead dog.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFM2poXJsH0
What other classic films should Refn have directed?
>>80145658
More like Refn deals with autism holy shit.
Those facial expressions are literally aspergers
>>80161779
his wife kisses Elle
Can anyone explain to me why he thought Bronson was feminine? (Source is the interview in the featurettes) Is it because art is somewhat feminine in a way?
>>80161022
Raffey Cassidy
>Bronson is feminine
That doesn't make any sense since the movie is based around fighting (or being unable to stop doing so) and that's inherently male tbqh
>>80157093
no homo but it feels good to wake up from a blackout and have a satisfying rare goose at the end of your bed. I take back the sincerity though you guys are the worst.
>>80162490
look gang is NWR literally on the spectrum? Almost certainly.
Is this /tv/ canon? Of course.
Do we view that as a negative? Absolutely not.
Refn has overcome so much adversity and thrown too many chairs at film school to not be celebrated as the real human bean he is.and a real hero
